Batman Would Not Have Survived Zach Snyder’s Justice League Arc

This year, we have had to get used to the idea of losing some of our most beloved superheroes. Although Batman has some powerful enemies, and a lot of them, he seems to be fairly invincible. He’s not supernaturally endowed with extraordinary abilities, but he still seems to avoid death with his strength, cunning, and technology. However, if Zack Snyder had his way, the Caped Crusader would finally meet his end in the DCEU.

Jennifer Beals Will Play an Original Character on DC’s Swamp Thing

The Swamp Thing better watch its slimy back. There’s a badass sheriff in town looking to take down anyone who threatens the peace. DC announced that Jennifer Beals has joined Swamp Thing as Sheriff Lucilia Cable and she joins a cast of strong female leads.

Crystal Reed and Maria Sten have already been cast on the series. The watery monster has not yet been announced, suggesting an emphasis on the strong women in the town.

Black Mirror May Let you Choose Your Own Ending

If there were a single television series you could pick to attempt a “choose your own ending” gambit, we can’t think of a better option than Black Mirror. Charlie Booker‘s consistently brilliant, often terrifying sci-fi techno-horror series has delivered some of the most shocking endings on TV in the last four years; offering viewers a chance to steer a character out of (or deeper into) one of Black Mirror‘s nightmares has a ton of potential.

What the Cracks in Jean Gray’s Face Mean in the Dark Phoenix Trailer

The first trailer for Simon Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix did a great job reminding us why the X-Men were the gold standard for superhero films for a long time. The X-Men have been around on the big screen a lot longer than the Avengers, and unlike their superhero brethren, who have more or less been greeted by humanity as rock stars (Tony Stark), gods (Thor) and patriots (Captain America), the X-Men have long been outcasts.

Taron Egerton Rides the Wave of Fame as Elton John in First Rocketman Teaser

Elton John has written dozens of hits and enjoyed a smashing career lasting more than five decades. There is one song in particular, however, that is the focal point of an upcoming biopic about the musician’s life. Paramount released the first trailer for Rocketman today and it is a rock and roll spectacle.

Taron Egerton stars as the famous singer/songwriter and while it is not an obvious choice, it totally works here.

Tessa Thompson Just Confirmed Valkryie’s Fate After Infinity War

Valkryie fans, you can breathe now. The fate of Tessa Thompson’s butt-kicking, hard-drinking Asgardian has been a major question in the MCU ever since Thanos snapped half the universe out of existence in Infinity War. We were pretty certain Valkyrie survived the Thanos’ snap, but those were mostly assumptions. Now, we’ve got it from Thompson herself that Valkyrie survived the snap, and probably has a few things she’d like to say (and do) about it:

No,

Tom Hanks Slips into Mister Rogers’ Cardigan for New Film

One of the ‘nicest men in show business’ is playing an even nicer man in show business. Tom Hanks slipped into the famous Mr. Rogers sweater this week, and it is a warm hug for the soul. Sony Pictures released the first image of Hanks in character and it is a mash-up of two American treasures.

To hundreds of thousands of children, Fred Rogers was a warm and kind face on television amid the chaos of cartoons and even more harrowing adult programming.

The Fabled Haven Jean Grey Escapes to in Dark Phoenix

Even powerful mutants need a place to unwind. The X-Mansion is possibly the most famous location in the X-Men canon, but the first trailer for Dark Phoenix flashed an initial glimpse at a more peaceful setting. On a tiny island, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) finds Magneto (Michael Fassbender) in a self-sustaining commune. Director Simon Kinberg recently spoke with Empire magazine and confirmed that oasis is exactly what it seems.

Director, Screenwriter

Nicole Holofcener on Adapting & Helming The Land of Steady Habits

She doesn’t really rehearse, shoots a limited number of takes and prefers not to watch dailies. While such an approach to filmmaking may seem a bit impractical to some, for writer/director Nicole Holofcener, it defines a decisiveness that has enabled her to produce a body of highly realistic and instantly relatable work.

In her past films — Walking and Talking, Lovely and Amazing, Friends With Money,

Three of Night School’s Writers on Developing the Hilarious Script

Is Night School the next Girls Trip? Like its predecessor, it’s simultaneously goofy and excellent, as well as helmed by Malcolm D. Lee, in which he directed Tiffany Haddish in her breakout role. Here, Haddish co-stars with Kevin Hart, who plays Teddy, a terrible high school student who grows up to be an ace barbecue salesman. All looks reasonably bright for Teddy until he accidentally burns down the store that employs him,

Did Benedict Wong Tease an Avengers 4 Villain?

Keeping the spoilers for Avengers 4 can be stressful. Benedict Wong is literally pulling his hair out over it. Or someone is. The Doctor Strange actor posted a selfie from the set as effects makeup artists pull on a second skin. The headpiece is a pretty exact match to his hair and skin, but there must be a reason he needs the disguise. The most infamous incognito characters in the MCU are the Skrulls,

Venom Unleashes Its Full Potential in New Clip

A new Venom clip finally reveals the full transformation from Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) into his symbiote alter ego. The two seem to work in perfect tandem, but once the symbiote takes over, it’s all-consuming. We also finally get to see how Venom moves in full action mode and a taste of what exactly they’re capable of.

Earlier today we got almost a full body glimpse at Venom. He’s massive and muscly,

The First Dark Phoenix Trailer Shows the X-Men Fighting Jean Gray

The first Dark Phoenix trailer is finally here, and it’s epic. 20th Century Fox has released this gangbusters trailer for Simon Kinberg’s upcoming new X-Men movie, which is adapted from one of the most iconic comic storylines of all— “The Dark Phoenix Saga” by Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum, and John Byrne from 1980. In this story, Jean Grey takes on the Phoenix Force, which imbues her with powers so potent she can barely contain them.

New Venom Images Hint at Eddie Brock’s Brutal Metamorphosis

In a little over a week, Eddie Brock’s transformation into one of Marvel’s wildest antiheroes will be arriving on the big screen. Director Ruben Fleischer and star Tom Hardy’s Venom may not be the first time we’ve seen Eddie Brock’s metamorphosis into the brutally powerful alien symbiote on screen—Topher Grace played Brock/Venom in Spider-Man 3. That was way back in 2007, and Grace’s Venom was but one of the villains in the film (Sandman was the other),

The X-Men Turn on Each Other in First Dark Phoenix Teaser

Origin stories of an average human becoming a superhero are always fascinating. Maintaining fidelity of a character helps us build an attachment to them and we can better understand their motivations. We just want to love you, heroes. Let us in! However, the origin story of a villain can be even more interesting as there are often dark twists lying in wait. Even more so if we see a superhero turn into a villain as is expected to be the case with Dark Phoenix.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is Pretty Bare Without CGI

Until someone actually harvests dinosaur DNA from a mosquito, the extinct stars of Jurassic World will always be artificial. Acting into the open air is more difficult than it looks onscreen but seeing the before footage without a single velociraptor is always fascinating. What is even more astonishing about the latest installment, Fallen Kingdom, is that the entire Isla Nublar didn’t exist either. The VFX masters at Image Engine just released a reel showing off multiple stages of digital effects created for the film.

Is Matt Reeves Batman Script Nearing Completion?

While you always want to greet new scoops with a healthy amount of skepticism, The Wrap‘s Umberto Gonzalez is a very credible reporter, and he’s got some potential Batman news that’s intriguing. It’s been known for a long time now that writer/director Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) has been working on a Batman script for Warner Bros. While the studio has a lot going on with their superhero franchises,

Lady Gaga Shares A Star is Born Teaser Featuring a New Song

You’ve likely heard that Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born is pretty fantastic, right? We shared our enthusiasm when we caught it at the Toronto International Film Festival. We also went to a screening with Cooper himself in D.C., where he opened up about the incredible journey of making the film—with inspiration from his visit backstage to a Metallica show, no less—with the audience in a Q&A. While the excitement for Cooper’s directorial debut,
