Behind the Scenes of Gary Oldman’s Extreme Makeover for Darkest Hour

Movie make-up is more than perfecting that contour or finding the perfect shade of lipstick that will show up well on camera. Most people are at least aware of the work that goes into creating the glamourous—and sometimes not so glamourous looks that we see on the big screen, but some films such as the Oscar Nominated film, Darkest Hour, take things to the next level.

A behind-the-scenes video from Collider gives fans a look at the hard work and careful thought that went into turning Gary Oldman into British Prime Minister,

Watch Writer/Director Alex Garland Narrate a Chilling Scene in his Sci-Fi Mind Melter Annihilation

Boasting a very solid 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, writer/director Alex Garland’s ambitious, scary-beautiful Annihilation has been hailed as the rare treat; a science fiction film that is at once bold, singular and uncompromising. Based on Jeff VanderMeer’s wild sci-fi novel of the same name, the first in his “Southern Reach Trilogy,” Garland went full gonzo for his film, delivering mind-melting visuals and legitimate scares, grounded by human emotion and Garland’s cinematic obsession with humanity in general (see his excellent Ex Machina for further proof).

Black Panther Continues Historic Run With Star Wars-Sized Second Weekend

The king continues to reign supreme. By now you’re likely well aware just how massive Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther has become. The young auteur’s first film for Marvel was already a history-making epic before it entered even more rarefied air this past weekend. Now Black Panther is only the fourth film ever to surpass $100 million in the U.S. for the second weekend in a row, with a haul of $108 million.

A History of the Wakandan Dialects the Actors Use in Black Panther

Black Panther had a really ambitious goal in creating Wakanda. It’s a fictional place born in a comic book world, but rooted in real African cultures. Production designer Hannah Beachler did extensive research to bring the technology and architecture to a place of believability. Costume designer Ruth E. Carter incorporated custom concepts into her designs for both the Black Panther and the Dora Milaje. Another really impressive piece of the puzzle was incorporating a reimagined dialect for an African nation that wasn’t ravaged by western civilization.

A Compilation of the Coolest VFX Moments in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars has always been on the forefront of filmmaking technology. George Lucas’ techniques were revolutionary, and we’ve come a long way since 1977. J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson are both masters in their own right of using practical effects. However, it takes the good people over at Industrial Light & Magic to really put those finishing touches on the galaxy.

In promotion of their Oscars campaign, ILM compiled some of the best hits from The Last Jedi.

The Third Film in the Jurassic World Trilogy Has an Official Release Date

By now, we know it’s a bad idea to extract dino DNA from mummified mosquitoes, but those crazy kids at Jurassic Park just keep trying. The original Jurassic World even made a joke of never learning from the inevitable carnage. Lowery (Jake Johnson) wore a fan shirt from the original park and was chastised for being insensitive. And yet, here we are mere months away from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,

Lupita Nyong’o and Trevor Noah Teaming Up on a Film Adaptation of Born a Crime

Seeing performers we love fawn over other performers we love is a particular treat. We delighted in this hysterical piece by Elle‘s terrifically funny Eric Thomas about the insane chemistry between Black Panther‘s Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan. Turns out, we are being treated to another glorious game-respects-game moment with Nyong’o, this time in a mind blowing combination which shows two talented individuals expressing their admiration for each other,

Donald Glover & his Brother Stephen Helped Punch up the Jokes in Black Panther

We’ve spent a lot of time rejoicing in the epic, groundbreaking, history-making grandeur of Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. We talked with the film’s costume designer Ruth E. We also had Carter school us on all the research that went into creating the iconic Panther suit,

How Writer-Director James Mangold Snagged Historic Oscar Nom for R-Rated Logan Script

Logan made Oscar history this year as the first comic book-based screenplay nominated for an Academy Award. The distinction’s due in no small part to director/co-writer James Mangold‘s extreme aversion to superhero clichés, which he wearily recites from his office on the 20th Century Fox lot in Los Angeles. “Some new alien arrives with a new power that somehow challenges our heroes; our heroes are fractured among each other so they have to learn how to band together or get over whatever romantic scars they have between them to focus on the fight ahead of them;
