John Krasinski Writes New Rules for Horror with A Quiet Place At SXSW

Jim Halpert on The Office was always great at pranks, but none of them were quite this chilling. Mostly known for his comedic roles, John Krasinski directed his first horror film, and it’s one of an early hit out of SXSW. A Quiet Place has an intriguing premise and the trailers have been terrifying us for months. Audience members said they were thoroughly satisfied by the story and it was really, really scary.

Sound has been taking a starring role in films recently from Mad Max: Fury Road to Baby Driver and Blade Runner: 2049...

Watch how They Created Electrified Thor, Hulk, the Giant Wolf & More in Stellar Thor: Ragnarok VFX Reel

The Framestore has done it again. The incredible VFX shop has released a new behind-the-scenes reel on how they did their wizardry work on Thor: Ragnarok, and it’s an immensely impressive feat of body-snatching.

What we mean to say is that for a bunch of scenes, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hera (Cate Blanchett) needed to be doubled, and not by stunt performers, but by their digital doppelgängers.

Framestore has done a lot of work with Marvel in the past,...

How the Pacific Rim: Uprising Director Lured Star John Boyega to Star in the Sequel

We’ve already written one story today about how scheduling conflicts can vastly change a film. In the case of Pacific Rim: Uprising, the scheduling conflict was huge—Charlie Hunnam, the star from Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 Pacific Rim‘s—was no longer able to reprise his role in the sequel. In a great interview with i09director Steven DeKnight discussed how they turned this possible disaster into a major win by eventually casting John Boyega...

Tom Cruise Goes Gonzo (Again) in new Mission: Impossible – Fallout Behind-the-Scenes Images

While everyone was understandably enthused to see the first footage from Solo: A Star Wars Story during the Super Bowl, you could argue that the Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible – Fallout trailer was the night’s big winner. Taking nothing away from the very impressive Solo teaser, there was something almost thrillingly unhinged about the trailer for writer/director Christopher McQuarrie’s upcoming Cruise-vehicle (we mean this almost literally, the man pilots and leaps from several different kinds of vehicles,...

Michael K. Williams Talks About his Mysterious Solo: A Star Wars Story Character

One of the main “what ifs” we have about Solo: A Star Wars Story is what if the great Michael K. Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Hap and Leonard) didn’t have his character cut due to scheduling conflicts. As you likely know by now, Williams had to be replaced by Paul Bettany after original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller left and Ron Howard came onboard. The reshoots that happened immediately ended up creating a scheduling conflict for Williams,...

The Mountain from Game of Thrones Proves He’s Not to be Messed With On or Off Screen

Chris Hemsworth once hosted Saturday Night Live and joked that in his Marvel audition, the casting agents said, “We’re looking for a Thor type. Not actual Thor.” So, too could be said of Icelandic actor Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. Björnsson plays The Mountain on Game of Thrones and he’s proven he lives up to the name.

In addition to acting, Björnsson is also a professional weight lifter. Björnsson told Men’s Health last month that he had his eye on setting the deadlifting record,...

Solo Cups Bring the Party to Solo: A Star Wars Story

If there’s anyone in the Star Wars galaxy that seems like a beer man, it’s definitely Han Solo. Or whatever alcoholic intergalactic drink of choice that would go great at a party. That’s why it’s particularly delightful that Solo: A Star Wars Story has announced the brilliant marketing merger with Solo cups.

It seems as though the Solo and Solo destinies have long been intertwined. Films often use codenames to keep things under wraps,...

The Dora Milaje Prepare for Battle Alongside the Avengers in Infinity War

If we were to go to war over the Infinity Gauntlet our first choice for backup would be the Dora Milaje. Turns out the Avengers agree. Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson), and Winter Soldier are preparing to battle Thanos, and they are teaming up with Wakanda for the show down.

Total Film magazine published an exclusive image from Avengers: Infinity War and it’s pretty epic...

Watch This Incredibly Impressive & Very Gory VFX Reel for Fear the Walking Dead

A major disclaimer before you watch the fascinating VFX reel for Fear the Walking Dead below—do it before lunch. Or don’t do it at all if you’re not a fan of gore. This look at the very impressive visual effects, created by Goodbye Kansas Studios, is not for the squeamish. Then again, neither is the show (or its progenitor, The Walking Dead), so if you’re curious how they turn actors into slobbering, oozing zombies,...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s Andy Serkis Reveals Snoke has a Backstory

For some Star Wars fans, the life and death of Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) was a slap in the face. Introduced in The Force Awakens, Snoke was, in their view, supposed to be a next generation Emperor, a villain so powerful even the most potent Sith Lord (Darth Vader in the original trilogy, the wannabe-Vader Kylo Ren in the new one) would bow down to him. And for a time, this reading of Snoke seemed entirely credible...

The Looming Tower‘s Stars on Tackling Terror, Real People, & Recent History on TV

The Looming Tower is a new Hulu series based on Lawrence Wright’s non-fiction book about the events leading up to the attack on the United States on 9/11. In an interview,...

Netflix Continues Going All Out on Sci-Fi With the Gorgeous Looking Lost in Space

The first full-length trailer for Netflix’s Lost in Space boasts a look as lush and wondrous as any sci-fi series we’ve seen on TV. Brace Yourself, There’s More Black Mirror to Come

There’s more technological terror to come. Netflix has renewed Black Mirror for a fifth season.

In fairness, the sci-fi anthology series from Charlie Booker and Annabel Jones isn’t always scary. There was the adorable ‘Hang the DJ last season that renewed our faith in dating apps, and the lovely Emmy winning San Junipero restored our faith in aging. Sort of. The point is it was lovely and awesome...
