New Avengers: Infinity War Posters Assemble Humanity’s Last Hope in Intriguing Pairings

They’re all here. In intriguing groupings that likely speak to alliances within the larger group in Avengers: Infinity War, five new posters gather your heroes, with all their varied skills, histories and heartaches. Let’s have a look, and tease out the potential narrative behind the graphic design.

Consider this your Avengers: New York poster, as all of these superheroes are based there. As the Avenger who kicked off the MCU in 2008 with the original Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark always gets pride of place. We’ve seen in both the trailers and still images that he spends quite a bit of time with Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Dr. Strange in Infinity War. Strange doesn’t go far without his man Wong (Benedict Wong). Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man, is sort of Tony’s pet project/nephew, and will be donning a brand new metal suit in Infinity War, seen the poster above.

We know that Chris Evans‘ bearded Captain America has been busy secret avenging since the events in Captain America: Civil War. Of course he shares this poster with Sebastian Stan‘s Bucky, whose life he has saved in three different MCU films. (Bucky is no longer the Winter Soldier—he now goes by the name White Wolf.) We’ve also got Letitia Wright as T’Challa’s sister Shuri, arguably the biggest breakout star from Black Panther. Rounding out the poster are a Guardian of the Galaxy antihero and hero, respectively; Karen Gillan as Nebula, one of Thanos’ daughters, and Pom Klementieff as the deep feeling Mantis.

Black Widow, Black Panther, Okoye and the Hulk—we wouldn’t want to mess with this particular group. Okay, we wouldn’t want to mess with any of the groupings represented in these posters, but seeing Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow, Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa/Black Panther, Danai Gurira‘s Okoye and Mark Ruffalo’s the Hulk in one poster is wild. Perhaps this has to do with the fact that a good chunk of Infinity War takes place on Wakanda, where, rumor has it, Hulk dons the Hulkbuster armor in spirited defense of the nation against Thanos.

According to a set visit by i09, the relationship between Elizabeth Olsen‘s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany’s Vision will be a major part of Infinity War. Here they’re joined by Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, and Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine.

This poster is the least surprising, as we knew from the end of Thor: Ragnarok, as well as all the Infinity War promotional materials that Thor and the Guardians become new best friends. Technically, the Guardians saved Thor’s life after Thanos attacked his ship at the end of Ragnarok. Here they are all—Thor in pride of place; Chris Pratt‘s Starlord; Zoe Saldana‘s Gamora; Dave Bautista’s Drax the Destroyer; and Bradley Cooper’s Rocket and Vin Diesel’s Teen Groot.

That’s it. Those are the new posters. Notice someone missing? Yeah, us too. What we know for sure is come this April 27,  Avengers: Infinity War will finally be here, and the decade-long build-up to one of the biggest films in history will be over. We’ll get to see for ourselves what happens when the Avengers, and all their friends, fight Marvel’s biggest, baddest villain of them all. We already know not everyone will make it out alive.
