New Jack Ryan Featurette Reveals a Series Committed to Authenticity

If you’re going to try and recreate some of the technical specificity and knowledge that the late Tom Clancy used to pour into his books, you might as well do it with his most famous character. In Amazon’s new series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, creators Carlton Cuse (Lost, The Strain) and Graham Roland (Fringe) wanted the show to be as authentic as it is riveting.

Chloë Sevigny Sheds a New Light on Famous Axe Murderer, Lizzie

Reduced to a caricature in a gory nursery rhyme, Chloë Sevigny is taking a closer look at Lizzie Borden’s motive for murder. Often perceived to be a cold-blooded killer, Lizzie take a big picture look at the events leading up to the crime. Sevigny’s passion project premiered earlier this year at Sundance, and the first trailer finally gives us a look at the gripping drama.

Lizzie strikes me as a similar approach to Sofia Coppola’s feminist retelling of The Beguiled last year.

Being Venom is Brutal, But Somebody’s Gotta Do It

Things in Eddie Brock’s (Tom Hardy) world have gotten completely out of control. Although the sentient tar like substance that has attached itself to Eddie’s body is called a symbiote, a new trailer for Venom makes it clear that we’re dealing with a parasite. It does what it wants, when it wants, and Eddie really has no say over the matter.

The latest look at Venom completely lifts the veil on the relationship between symbiote and host.

Emma Stone and Jonah Hill Try to Map Their Own Minds in Maniac Teaser

Are Jonah Hill and Emma Stone replicants?

Probably not. But the psychological tests they’re submitted to in Netflix’s new dark comedy Maniac do sound a bit like the ones in the Blade Runner movies. And in the limited series, the pair play two strangers who you could say are malfunctioning—one is heartbroken, and the other is possibly schizophrenic.

The teaser makes it clear from the start that this will be a show that picks up the malleable nature of the mind and runs with it.

Ben Kingsley Has a Close Shave in Final Operation Finale Trailer

Ben Kingsley and Oscar Isaac navigate a deadly power dynamic in the final Operation Finale trailer. Isaac stars as the heroic Mossad agent Peter Malkin who brought Nazi Lieutenant Adolf Eichmann (Ben Kingsley) to justice. Tracking down Eichmann 15 years after the war was just the beginning. Malkin gets close enough to take Eichmann’s life in his hands in the final trailer, but just who has the advantage here?

Kingsley plays the master manipulator with chilling callousness.

Peter Dinklage Enjoys Post-Apocalyptic Solitude in the First Teaser for I Think We’re Alone Now

If I found myself alone in a post-apocalyptic world, the first thing I would do was try to make contact with other people. But Del (Peter Dinklage) isn’t like the rest of us. In his empty town, formerly of 1600 people, he feels at peace. The first trailer for I Think We’re Alone Now, released yesterday, gives us a peek into Del’s world, just as it turns upside-down.

Everyone Wants a Piece of Alita in the New Alita: Battle Angel Trailer

Alita is a super fighting time capsule in the new Alita: Battle Angel trailer. In a post-apocalyptic world where man and machine merge, Alita contains technology that was thought to have been lost in a cataclysmic event 300 years prior. This is the second full length trailer for the film, and it kicks it up a notch. Less sentimentality and more action mark the new preview.

SDCC 2018: The DCEU Lightens Up for the First Shazam! Trailer

With the brooding Man of Steel and its gritty successors, Zack Snyder indelibly left his mark on the DCEU. Movies like Batman v Superman and Justice League — but not so much Aquaman, from the looks of the trailer — are indeed darker than the average superhero flick, but they’re not without relieving moments of humor and humanity. Shazam!,

SDCC 2018: Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah Awaken in Godzilla: King of the Monsters Trailer

The first Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer is surprisingly soothing. Giant creatures with the potential for humanity ending destruction are more awe-inspiring than fearful. For now. As Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) rallies support for unleashing the ancient beasts, the end of the world grows near.

Even without the monsters, the predicament is unsettling. There are catastrophic weather events happening far beyond the control of mankind. It’s enough to make me run and hide under the covers,

Lucasfilm Unveils Clone Wars Trailer for Surprise Season

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is in its tenth anniversary year, and Lucasfilm’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con shared that the company’s first weekly TV show is returning for one more season.

Season 6 of The Clone Wars was billed as the final entry in the series when Netflix took over distribution from Cartoon Network. However, as it often goes with the Star Wars universe, there were more stories left to tell.

The Nightflyers Trade One Deadly Threat for Another in First Trailer

Isn’t it always the things that are meant to save us that become our demise? At least that seems to be the case in science fiction. Rotten Tomatoes has the mind-bending first full trailer for Nightflyers straight from SDCC. Humanity’s only hope is having a little trouble.

Earth is in peril and the best option is to leave for greener pastures. The crew of the Nightflyer embarks on the journey with eagerness and hope,

Make way for Mr. Glass. The most vulnerable villain in cinema is having his moment. Criminal mastermind Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) stars in the final teaser trifecta for Glass.

Kevin Wendell Crumb (James McAvoy), tortured by his uncontrollable personalities, was the first to be spotlighted this week. Next came the powerful David Dunn (Bruce Willis) who remains resistant to his fate and role as a superhuman.

J.J. Abrams’ Overlord is Finally Revealed to Be a Bonkers Historical Horror Film

When J.J. Abrams announced the film Overlord, we obviously all thought the same thing. World War II, zombies, Nazis, and possession, right? Isn’t that what you had in mind? Yah, us neither. Bad Robot just released its first trailer of the terror-inducing film Overlord, and it is insane. Abrams’ new film brings us on a typical war journey that takes a psychotic and deranged turn, one unlike anything we have seen before.

Robin Hood Learns His Famous Archery from the Best in New Trailer

Taron Egerton is learning his fighting chops just like in Kingsman: The Secret Service, but this time, he has to jump back several centuries to do it.

The most recent take on the legend looks not quite as grave as the 2010 feature with Russell Crowe and not quite as zany as 1993’s spoofy Robin Hood: Men in Tights. The second trailer feels totally different, actually, promising an action-packed origin story with enough comedic relief to let viewers catch a breath.

Steve Has a New Summer Job in First Stranger Things 3 Teaser

Remember malls? The place you went to show off your new perm, listen to your Walkman, and make out with your college boyfriend? Yah, me neither. I was ridiculously uncool in high school. Thankfully, Stranger Things is here to show us what the hippest spot in the center of the universe was doing in the mid-80s. A new mock-ad for Starcourt Mall! features American treasures like Wicks ‘n’ Sticks, Radio Shack, and Steve Harrington (Joe Keery).

Witness the Madness of the Court in Debut Trailer for The Favourite

Forget the Mad King of Game of Thrones and The Crown’s stalwart Elizabeth II. There’s new royalty in town, and she’s losing her mind and having a splendid time doing it in the first teaser trailer for The Favourite.

During one of the numerous wars between England and France, Olivia Colman plays Queen Anne, an unstable matriarch whose court looks as insane as she may be turning.

The Meg Sinks Its Teeth Into Everything in Sight in New Clip

If your weekend plans include a visit to the beach, this new teaser for The Meg might make you think about relocating your summer fun to dry land. The first trailer lightened things up with some laughs, but there’s no relief here. Just relentless pursuit from the bloodthirsty prehistoric shark.

The short spot is low on plot but filled with action. As the super shark begins to attack, the teaser suggests the best way to avoid becoming an ocean snack is to “swim faster.” I am admittedly not a marine biologist,

Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon Make a Surprising Getaway in The Spy Who Dumped Me Clip

Any movie starring Kate McKinnon has “hidden summer gem” written all over it. We were excited when the trailer for The Spy Who Dumped Me dropped this spring. Now a new clip gives us an amusing amuse bouche of the kind of funny we’ll be seeing. Basically, it’s really relatable characters in unrelatable situations. (Watch out, this clip is NSFW. Or, at least put your headphones in.)

James Bond or Ethan Hunt might have a crazy trick up their sleeve to evade their villainous foes,

Ant-Man and the Wasp Show Off Their Powers in New Featurette

Superhero films are inherently a little goofy. Adults wearing costumes could easily be laughable, but it’s a central point to Ant-Man and the Wasp as the suits are what allows them to fight crime. It is a wackier premise than most, but somehow, they seem to tap into that Marvel magic to make it totally fun. Being able to shrink to the size of an insect doesn’t seem as useful as super strength or an obedient hammer.
