True Detective Season 3 is Happening
HBO has made it official, folks: True Detective season 3 is happening, and it’s bringing in a bunch of serious artists to right the ship after a rocky season 2. Creator/showrunner Nic Pizzolatto has joined forces with the great David Milch (Deadwood, Luck) and Oscar-winning Moonlight actor Mahershala Ali for a season set in the Ozarks. Now, word is that another piece of the puzzle has been added;
Watch a Clip From Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water
Guillermo del Toro films are always an event, and his latest, The Shape of Water, is currently the talk of the Venice Film Festival. Fox Searchlight has released the first clip from the film, which features Sally Hawkins as a lonely woman named Elisa, who works as a janitor at a top-secret government laboratory. The lab is home to one very special inhabitant, a humanoid creature that lives underwater (think of an amphibian-human without language but with incredible grace).
War for the Planet of the Apes Eyes Oscar Gold
In the nearly 50 years since Planet of the Apes first premiered, the franchise has been at the forefront of moviemaking technology and emotional storytelling. It has endured as a plotline that continues to draw audiences in and the narrative reached a peak with this year’s War for the Planet of the Apes. 20th Century Fox is hoping that the technical achievements and top tier performances will push the movie into new Academy Award territory.
Marvel and Sony Plan to Reunite Spider-Man: Homecoming Screenwriters for the Sequel
The Spiderman: Homecoming team is hoping to recreate the winning recipe that made the swinging superhero a hit this summer. According to THR, screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are in final negotiations to return for the sequel. Tom Holland is definitely set to reprise the web-slinging title role and the creative team will be complete if director Jon Watts gets locked in for the sequel.
Luke Takes on Darker Look in New Star Wars: The Last Jedi Image
While we patiently await a new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, our good friend (in our minds) Mark Hamill has done his level best to give us updates, tidbits and peeks at the next installment in the franchise. The latest, once again courtesy of Hamill’s Twitter feed, is a cover image of Luke Skywalker with a much darker look on the Hungarian film magazine Cinemania Mozimánia.
Wonder Woman‘s Etta Candy is Tasked with a Mission of Her Own
When Wonder Woman premiered this summer, a true star was born. Sure there’s Gal Gadot who is graceful, powerful, and flawless in every way, but we’re talking about Etta Candy. Earlier this week we got to hear Etta (Lucy Davis) tell her side of the story.
As Steve Trevor’s assistant, Etta was tasked with the job of helping Diana Prince acclimate to her new London surroundings.
Watch this Adorable Homemade Recreation of the Thor: Ragnorak Trailer
Marvel made a brilliant decision when they tapped New Zealand director Taika Waitit to helm Thor: Ragnarok. The trailers have looked so good—both funny and exciting—that they’ve broken some pretty significant viewing records. However, Hungarian filmmaker Ákos Varga has proved that you don’t need a supersized budget to make an incredible trailer. All it takes is some markers and whole lot of cardboard.
Varga and his friends recreated the entire trailer shot for shot.
Game of Thrones: Watch 1st Episode of HBO’s 7-Part Behind-the-Scenes Series Now
With the end of every season of Game of Thrones comes your own, long winter. It’s always sad saying goodbye to the drama queens and kings of Westeros, especially this season, with the end so near (and yet, the final season so far, far away).
HBO feels your pain (and enjoys your ratings), so they’ve prepared a 7-part behind-the-scenes series, diving into the nitty gritty details on what it took to make season 7.
A Computer Program has Begun Writing Final Game of Thrones Book “The Winds of Winter”
Game of Thrones fans were once installed in two very distinct houses; those who had read George R. R. Martin’s books and those who hadn’t. Then, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’s juggernaut show caught up to, and surpassed, Martin’s books, uniting those houses after a years-long semi-bitter feud. While Game of Thrones spent season 7 rushing towards the Great War with the Night King and his army of the dead, Martin has been (as he has been for a while now) plugging away on the final book in his epic series,
Blade Runner 2049 Short Film Reveals Origin of new Replicants
Director Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, the long awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s iconic 1982 original, is one of the movies we’re most excited about this fall. A little like 20th Century Fox did with their Alien: Covenant prologue, Warner Bros. has unveiled this thrilling tease—the short film 2036: Nexus Dawn.
Collider nabbed this exclusive video, which goes into detail about what happened in the Blade Runner universe between the first film,
Black Panther Actress Letitia Wright Confirms She’s Joining Avengers: Infinity War
The Avengers are going to need all the help they can get to defeat Thanos and his quest to unite the Inifnity Stones and become master of the universe. We already know that veteran Avengers like Black Widow, Iron Man, and the Hulk will be teaming up with Guardians of the Galaxy Star-Lord, Gamora and more. Newcomers like Spider-Man and Black Panther are also answering the call, and now we know who the latest superhero to join forces with the team will be.
The Secret Hidden Within the New mother! Poster
There are easter eggs and then there are CIA level clues hidden within the advertising for mysterious films. The new secret trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s mother! falls under the latter category. Aronofsky posted a new trailer for the movie yesterday to Reddit featuring kaleidoscopic images of the film’s stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem in their gothic mansion. The post read only “Knock, knock” referring to the film’s only discernible theme thus far of letting strangers into your home.
Super Popular (and Creepy) Horror Podcast Lore Adapted as Anthology Series for Amazon
We often forget that our most enduring myths, from vampires to werewolves, from changelings to possessed dolls, originated from actual occurrences in real life. This is the premise behind the wildly popular podcast “Lore,” launched in March 2015 by Aaron Mahnke. “Lore” quickly become a critical hit, ending up on “must listen” and “best of” lists, including from Entertainment Weekly and Apple.
Of course Amazon’s new horror anthology series,
Marvel’s The Punisher Releases new Teaser, Episode Titles
Jon Bernthal’s tortured Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, was an instant fan favorite when he appeared on Daredevil. Now, as we prepare for The Punisher’s stand-alone Netflix series, we’re learning a bit more about what to expect, including word that another Marvel hero will be heavily involved.
ComicBookMovie.com reports that Marvel’s SVP of Creator and Content Development, C.B. Cebulski, teased that another Marvel hero would be appearing in the series,
Game of Thrones: Dissecting Cersei’s Turn to The Golden Company
It would probably take the Lord of Light to show us the way through all our questions after Sunday’s Game of Thrones season 7 finale, “The Dragon and the Wolf.” Some of these are small bore questions, in which the fate of Westeros doesn’t hinge (like where did Bronn and Podrick disappear to), while others are, well, rather huge. It’s funny, while we were putting together this list of questions,
Etta Candy Tells Her Side to the Wonder Woman Story
Wonder Woman was incredible and Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) reshaped the landscape of women in superhero films forever (we hope), but let’s be honest—she was never the only female hero of the film. Of course we’re talking about the super sharp Etta Candy (Lucy Davis), who definitely didn’t get enough credit for her masterful makeovers, quick wit, and easygoing nature that allowed her to completely ignore that an Amazonian princess had suddenly appeared with her boss out of thin air.
Game of Thrones Questions to Ponder During the Long Winter Before Season 8
After last night’s season finale, we are left with many questions. For better or for worse, we have time to mull these over while the army of the dead marches closer—the 8th and final season might not air until 2019.
About that last scene…

The Kong: Skull Island VFX Team Reveals Their Design Secrets
Seeing our favorite monsters come to life on screen gets more incredible each year as technology makes them bigger, scarier, and more realistic. King Kong is one of the most sympathetic monsters to stomp onto movie screens since Frankenstein. Sometimes enemy, other times hero, Kong often displays human emotions and can be both fearsome and gentle. The overgrown gorilla has evolved through many iterations since his original 1933 appearance. The visual effects masters that developed Kong for

The 1990 ABC version tried to tackle the entire story which comes from King’s more than 1000 page tome,
Emmy-Nominated VFX Designer on Creating Terrible Worlds in The Man in the High Castle
Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle portrays a comprehensive and convincing alternate reality in which the Nazi Reich was victorious in World War II. It’s a disturbing world that fortunately never was, but the show is a hearty visual feast that dives unrestrained into the terror. Visual effects supervisor Lawson Deming guided his team to build entire cityscapes outside Hitler’s window, reimagines where technology would lead in an America controlled by the Nazi Reich,
