“The Witcher: Blood Origin” Trailer Reveals 4-Part Special Prequel Series
The great Michelle Yeoh centers our first look at The Witcher: Blood Origin, the new prequel series set in an elven world 1200 years before the events in The Witcher. Blood Origin takes place during the Elven Golden Era, before the arrival of humans or monsters (some might claim they’re one and the same?), yet all is not well even in this, non-monstrous realm. The first trailer for The Witcher: Blood Origin introduces us to seven warriors,
New Dark Phoenix Poster Revealed Ahead of Trailer
While nearly all the focus in the superhero world has been mostly Captain Marvel-related, there’s another super powerful superhero ready to rise. Fox has released a new poster for writer/director Simon Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix, starring Sophie Turner as the X-Men’s most potent mutant, Jean Grey. The poster hints at Jean’s divided nature, between her controlled self and the uncontrollable Dark Phoenix force.
The two different looks include two specific callouts: on the left-hand side,
It’s a Battle of the Greats as Science Fiction’s Biggest Awards Announce Finalists
The Hugo Awards have announced their finalists, and it looks like many of our favorites have made the cut. As science fiction’s most prestigious honor, the Hugo Awards are trademarked by the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS) who hosts the annual World Science Fiction Convention or “Worldcon.” This year the final list of nominees is packed with excellent films, television series and books. Blade Runner 2049, Get Out and The Shape of Water—all three films that walked away with at least one Oscar—are among the names vying for Best Dramatic Presentation,
Made in Louisiana: On Set With the Crew of NCIS: New Orleans
On a warm March day, we took a drive outside of New Orleans to Harahan, Louisiana, and found ourselves, improbably, back in New Orleans. We were standing in a courtyard off of St. Ann street between Bourbon and Royal. Directly in front of us was a large kitchen, and beyond that a high-tech command center where serious investigative work is routinely conducted. But out in the courtyard, we were marveling at the weather-beaten air conditioner, a fountain overflowing with plants,
Who’s Funnier, Iron Man or Ultron in this new Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer?
Now that Avengers: Age of Ultron has had its world premiere at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, there are likely going to be a few more clips like this released in the build up to the film’s wide release on May 1.
There’s been all sorts of interesting stories surrounding the premiere of Ultron. There was the piece in Vulture yesterday where Whedon once again discussed how exhausting making this film was,
Celebrating Black History Month
Black History Month comes to a close this Saturday, and just a week later the 50th anniversary of the first march from Selma to Montgomery, an event that shocked the nation and came to be known as "Bloody Sunday," will be commemorated in Selma on March 7 (a moment so brilliantly conveyed in Ava DuVernay's Selma, one of the films on our list). From World War II to the Civil Rights movement, we've looked at eight moments,
Made in Maryland: Hanging With the Crew on the Set of Veep
It was a cold, blustery Tuesday in December when we were on the set of HBO’s Veep in downtown Baltimore. On the production front, however, It was a relatively calm day of filming by Veep standards, but a calm day on the set of this show still requires dozens of crew members to work their butts off. Whether it was Kim Bogues in craft services, costumer Constance Harris or assistant property managers Jamie Bishop and John Bert,
Indian Paintbrush’s Peter McPartlin on Producing The Grand Budapest Hotel & More
The actual business of making films, from acquiring insurance to dealing with lawyers to the Byzantine permits, permissions and contact stipulations can be, in the right storyteller’s hands, entirely entertaining. Indian Paintbrush’s COO Peter McPartlin is one of those storytellers.
There have been books about the business of Hollywood (Peter Biskund’s Down and Dirty Pictures comes to mind) that reveal the huge personalities orbiting behind the filmmakers and the stars,
Welcome to Where To Watch: Your Favorite Films & TV Shows All in One Place
Finding your favorite films and TV shows legally and quickly online has always involved searching and sifting. There are more than 100 platforms that legally stream content now, but there's never been a single source to help you find them, and, find out what movies and shows they're offering. Simply searching for “Inside Llewyn Davis legal streaming” brings up RottenTomatoes.com (which then directs you elsewhere), Amazon, some illegal service (negating the “legal” in your original search to begin with),

The Future of Movie Theaters: A Total Body Experience
First there was the Kinetoscope, and then there were silent movies. Fast forward through a hundred years of rich cinematic history, including a quick Trip to the Moon, a slight case of Vertigo and some ‘Jaw’ dropping sharks jumping off the screen and you’ll arrive in 2014, where new technology is working to change our movie going experience in mind-boggling ways.
Today, the practice of going out to the movies is so much more than sitting in a dimly lit auditorium munching popcorn (it should be noted,
Drawing Katniss, Magneto & More: Costume Illustrator Phillip Boutte Jr.
Phillip Boutte Jr. has been involved in film since he was three years old, when he began acting. He acted until he was around 16-years old, when he was growing tired of the roles he was being offered. “I didn’t like the way they were portraying young black men on TV,” he said, “every audition I was going on was for ‘Wiseass Kid number five,’ so I had an identity crisis about what I wanted to do,
Agent Knox vs. Eli Thompson:Boardwalk Empire’s Brian Geraghty on Season 4 Finale
Spoiler alert. For those of you not caught up with Boardwalk Empire, do not watch the video or read the below.
In one corner, you've got Agent Warren Knox (Brian Geraghty), the young comer at the Bureau of Investigation whose clean shaven baby face belies a murderer's malice. In the other corner stands Eli Thompson (Shea Whigham), little brother to Atlantic City's crime boss Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), a former police chief,
Watch Artists Hand Paint Murals for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
As we wrote back in May, not all advertisements are created equal. Colossal Media is responsible for the hand painted, photo realistic murals that you see scattered through New York City (and in cities across the country), that look more like art than ads. They are, in fact, as close to works of art as an advertisement can get, creations that are crafted with painstaking precision. You know they’re doing something right when their murals make you thirsty for a beer you don’t even like.
15 Images Celebrating Batman’s 75th: Still Swinging After All These Years
DC Comics formally recognizes March 30, 1939 as the official debut of Batman, created by comic book artist Bob Kane. Or was it his secret collaborator, Bill Finger? It's fitting that the exact origin for our most tortured superhero is still somewhat murky (and part of a panel at this year’s Comic-Con, “Who Created Batman?”). Whoever deserves the credit, the first time we got a glimpse of the caped crusader was actually in May of 1939,
Watch How to Train Your Dragon 2‘s Dean DeBlois Take Kids’ Questions
We learned a lot from talking to writer/director Dean DeBlois. One is, he must be one of the most calm, even tempered and laid back individuals helming a major film franchise in the business. Two, a lot of work, and risk, went into making How to Train Your Dragon 2, a sequel that is being heralded as one of the best in animated history. And three, the man is committed to creating an animated trilogy that’ll live on and inspire kids and adults alike for years to come.

Highlights from the 2nd Annual Creativity Conference
The second annual Creativity Conference (check out the link for photos and more here) was a celebration of the impact, and necessity, of the creative community on the economic stability and cultural legacy of America. “Year after year, audiences go to their local cinemas or sign up for streaming services to see what our industry has to offer,” Senator Dodd, chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America said. “Our industries are far more than just creators of entertainment…the creative community contributes 3.2% to our GDP.”
Earth Day 2014: Hollywood Wants to Write Happy Ending for Planet With Eco Efforts
Hollywood has been celebrating Earth Day for years in order to raise awareness about environmental issues and put their considerable clout behind green initiatives. Who better than the people who make their living telling stories to strike up a memorable dialogue about sustainable practices? The big six studios’ embrace of Earth Day has only strengthened over time, and their contributions can be seen as a model of how companies in any field can get serious about protecting the planet,
Video Featurette: Behind-the-Scenes With the Creators of Walking With Dinosaurs
Ever since June of 1993, audiences have grown to expect a lot out of their dinosaur movies. You can thank Steven Spielberg and Jurassic Park for turning audiences into very exacting judges of what does, and does not, look like a believable dinosaur on screen. Jurassic Park was a huge leap forward in what CGI can do for a film, but for dinosaur fans (which is just about everyone who was ever a child at one point),
