Critics Hail Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant
With a solid 76 percent fresh rating via Rotten Tomatoes, Alien: Covenant has been wowing critics leading up to the film’s theatrical release later this month. It’s full of enough nods to the original Alien, but also features plenty of updates and surprises to keep old and new fans alike on the edges of their seats. Here’s what the critics have to say:
Ridley Scott Says Alien: Covenant Sequel to Start Filming in 14 Months
With Alien: Covenant scoring positive early reviews, Ridley Scott is already talking about the sequel (and Covenant isn’t even out until May 19!). Starting with 2012’s Prometheus, Scott has been reverse engineering the Alien mythology, leading us back to his iconic 1979 masterpiece that started it all—and inspired countless sci-fil films since.
Considering Scott has been working on this since well before 2012,

HBO visited the set of Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, hanging out with the cast and crew as they worked on what promises to be one of the year’s most brilliantly crafted films. And we do mean craft. The amount of technical and construction know-how that was poured into the creation of the sets, props and art design is staggering.

MUTHR Returns in new Aliens: Covenant Trailer
You'll be forgiven if you don’t remember MUTHR (pronounced ‘mother’) in Ridley Scott’s very first Alien, the artificial intelligence that powered the Nostromo, Ripley’s ship, with a cool, indifferent female-voiced appraisal. MUTHUR wasn’t as evil as Stanley Kubrick’s HAL, but she wasn’t a very maternal artificial being, either. Now, in Scott’s upcoming Alien: Covenant, MUTHR returns, and the A.I.'s inclusion likely means it plays a significant part in the deadly events in the film.
Alien: Covenant Director Ridley Scott Thinks Aliens are Real & Deadly
Ridley Scott is one of the most prolific filmmakers of our time, directing iconic films such as Alien, Thelma & Louise, and Blade Runner. Looking through his credits, it is pretty obvious that he is intrigued by telling dystopian stories, stories that force their protagonists to make the ultimate sacrifice, and stories that look death right in the eye, whether death is in the form of an alien,
Alien: Covenant Prologue Reveals Fate of Prometheus Survivors
Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) survived to the very end of Prometheus, alone, her entire crew dead and her fate grim. Her only companion was the severed head of David (Michael Fassbender), the treacherous humanoid robot who caused her so much trouble. In the lead up to Ridley Scott’s sequel, Alien: Covenant, we haven’t seen much of Shaw in any of the promotional materials, and her name has only been evoked in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in one of the film’s trailers where the crew of the Covenant find a security badge with her face and name on it.
Check out the Terrifying new Neomorph in Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant
Empire has released these three new photos from Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, with the final shot being the money maker. In it, you'll see a new alien, the “Neomorph," in the midst of a grotesque meal. "The Neomorph was inspired by Scott’s fondness for nature documentaries on living nightmares, like goblin sharks," Empire's John Nugent writes. Screenwriter John Logan told him that nature docs end up inspiring Scott and find their way into his films.

Ridley Scott Originally had a MUCH Different Ending for Alien
In a great new video interview conducted by Entertainment Weekly's Sara Vilkomerson, director Ridley Scott revealed that he had a much different ending in mind for Alien, his iconic, game-changing sci-fi horror film that set the bar for all subsequent sci-fi films. Scott was chatting with EW in the lead-up to his upcoming Alien: Covenant, which takes place before the events in his original classic.

20th Century Fox dropped a clever new TV spot for Alien: Covenant that includes an Easter Egg that leads to a terrific new teaser (which itself includes a pretty major reveal). In case you’re a little groggy this morning, we’ve decided to give you some help. First, here’s the TV spot:

20th Century Fox's promo team would have you believe that there are three ways of dealing with a xenomorph—you can run, you can pray, and you can hide. A while back, we interviewed Swiss documentarian Belinda Salin on her film Dark Star: H.R. Giger’s World. Giger is perhaps most famous in the United States as the man who helped Ridley Scott create the terrifying xenomorph from Alien, arguably one of the most famous movie monsters of all time. Ridley Scott was shown Giger’s “Necronomicon,” a book of Giger images that led to Scott giving him the job as a conceptual artist for the film.
Michael Fassbender’s Robot Takes Center Stage in New Alien: Covenant Featurette
Ridley Scott’s Prometheus had several things going for it (most crucially, the director’s return to one of his signature franchises), and one of those Michael Fassbender’s robot David. Brilliant, cunning, and programmed for treachery, David was arguably the prime mover in Prometheus, and only one of two characters still standing (sort of) at the film’s end. The last we saw of him, Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw was sipping his severed head (still talking) into a duffel bag as the two take off to find the Engineer’s home planet.
This Alien: Covenant Red Band Trailer is Incredibly Intense
If the first Alien: Covenant trailer was described as “promising” and “terrifying,” what’s left to say about the second one?
Referred to as the film’s “red band” trailer for the red MPAA ratings graphic at the beginning, the film’s second trailer was approved to be shown only before R and NC-17-rated films. As a result, we’re now able to see a bit more of the intriguing horrors of the Alien franchise that have only improved with the advancement of CGI and special effects.

Meet the Big, Bad Xenomorph in new Alien: Covenant Trailer
What we enjoyed so immensely about the Alien: Covenant teaser we shared last Thursday was the call back to Ridley Scott’s original Alien. Here we met a crew of eclectic characters, mostly made up of couples, all willingly marooned aboard a spaceship, grousing about the minor indignities of space travel without having any idea just how bad things are going to get. For Covenant, this meant talking about leaving Earth for good in order to colonize a new,

If you’re one of the many people who loves FX’s new X-Men show Legion, you may have caught this fantastic, nearly five minute long prologue for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. Eschewing any alien frights (well, save for one tense moment), the prologue introduces you to the crew of the Covenant before they enter cryosleep. Their mission is to colonize a remote planet and form a new human settlement.
Watch the First, Deliciously Scary Trailer for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant Trailer
When Ridley Scott released Prometheus in 2012, there was reason to be excited. The legendary director was returning to the material than had made him a household name, building off the phenomenal Alien franchise he had begun in 1979. While the film wasn't what many had hoped, it still had plenty of intrigue and terror, and it's put Scott on the path to the next film, Alien: Covenant,
