Meet Your Soon-to-be Favorite Antiheroes From Suicide Squad

When news broke that a test screening for Suicide Squad resulted in some very excited viewers, people understandably started getting excited. The reasons keep coming with this new international promo released by Warner Bros. Pictures, treating the psychopathic Suicide Squad as if they were a soccer team (or football club, for you international fans), creating some interesting comparisons while simultaneously revealing some details about the characters. Director David Ayer's bad guy ensemble is starting to look like a lock for late summer blockbuster status.

The Academy Reveals Rare Revenge of the Jedi Teaser from 1982

Folks, this is a treat. Thanks in part (we assume) to today being the 39th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope, which hit theaters on May 25, 1977, the Academy has released a very rare teaser of Revenge of the Jedi, the third and final installment in George Lucas's original trilogy that, famously, had that very aggressive and un-Jedi title, before it was changed to the more appropriate Return.

Rogue One Art & Star Wars: Episode VIII Director Rian Johnson & Chewbacca on set

It was exactly 39 years ago today on May 25, 1977, that Star Wars: A New Hope was released in theaters. To celebrate the anniversary, Lucasfilm released a new episode on YouTube of The Star Wars Show. In the show's cold open, you get Chewbacca on the set of Star Wars: Episode VIII acting very much like a millennial (or, frankly, non-millennials at this point, too) by enjoying images of himself on his iPad.

This New Beauty and the Beast Teaser Tops Star Wars: Force Awakens in 1st Day

Yup, you read that headline right. This new teaser for Disney's Beauty and the Beast broke the record for most views in its first 24 hours with an astonshing 91.8 million. This topped Disney's very own Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which garnered 88 million views with it's second teaser trailer,  Captain America: Civil War, which received 61 million views, and Avengers: Age of Ultron,

New Warcraft Featurette Shows Promise for Epic Film

In the New York Times, director Duncan Jones spoke about the personal hardships he endured during the production process of Warcraft. Mind you, these were not the usual growing pains of jumping from relatively small films (his excellent debut, Moon, and the bigger Source Code) into the world of big budget blockbuster, but rather, the illness of his wife (she’s recovered) and the death of his father,

Matthew McConaughey Stars in Civil War Drama Free State of Jones

Matthew McConaughey stars in STX Entertainment's Free State of Jones as Newt Knight, a defiant Southern farmer who waged an armed rebellion against the Confederacy alongside other small farmers and with the assistance of local slaves. The uprising led Jones County, Mississippi, to secede from the Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones. The film's first trailer is finally here, and it's a taut, ripping minute of action. McConaughey seems right at home as the noble Knight,

Suicide Squad Test Screening Bodes Well for Film

We wrote last week about how the buzz surrounding Margot Robbie's performance as Harley Quinn (for the people at Warner Bros. who have seen a cut of the film) is such that the star is already in talks about starring as Quinn in an female-centric superhero movie. We're just like you, we've only seen the trailers, and those have been enough to excite us about this character—Robbie's Quinn has stolen each trailer with her preening,

This Animated The Nice Guys Trailer is Awesome

You have to hand it to the whole The Nice Guys marketing team, their teasers, trailers and fake rants leading up to today's release have been fantastic. Even the packaging for their soundtrack was inspired (we spoke to the folks who did it). So it's not surprising that their new animated trailer captures the sleezy, breezy 1970s setting perfectly, with the super saturated colors and

Seth Rogen’s Sausage Party the Rare Existential Animated Film

Admit it, when you heard that Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Jonah Hill had written a film called Sausage Partyyou were thinking "raunchy bromance with epic fart jokes, and bongs." Or something like that, perhaps a Superbad for the 30-set, which is sort of what Neighbors was, anyway. What Sausage Party actually is an existential animated movie about what it would be like if grocery store food had feelings,

Join Xavier’s School for Gifted Children in This Retro Recruitment Video

Oh, Charles Xavier—what would the world's tenderhearted mutant children do without you and your beloved school? Ostracized by their non-mutant classmates, misunderstood (and often feared) by their own parents and siblings, and viewed with suspicion by the general public, these kids needed someone who understood them, and some place they could feel safe (and grow into the finest fighting unit this side of the Delta Force). In this fairly perfectly realized retro recruitment video, dated 1983,

Magneto Gets Mean in New X-Men: Apocalypse Clip

Bow down, mortals: this new X-Men: Apocalypse clip features sometime good guy/mostly seriously bad guy Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) revealing himself as Magneto, the metal bending mutant who has been torturing poor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) ever since they became frenemies.

If you know anything about Erik Lehnsherr, it's that his transformation into a bad guy is weighted by history; his parents were ripped from him during the Holocaust, and his anger,

Check out the new Ghostbusters Trailer

Folks, there's a new Ghostbusters trailer, and if you're one of the millions of people who actually enjoy watching movies before deciding whether or not you like it, you should be excited. While a lot of press has been made about how the last trailer was the most "disliked" in YouTube history, it was obvious to most people the haters weren't motivated by what they saw in the trailer but by

The Birth of a Nation‘s Haunting ‘Living Poster’

We wrote back in January about the rapturous response to Nate Parker’s Sundance-shaking Nat Turner biopic, The Birth of a Nation. Parker's film is already considered a major contender for the Academy Award (the Sundance reviews were more or less in agreement that the film is a major achievement), and woke up the film world when it received a festival record-setting $17.5 million offer from Fox Searchlight. Today the studio released the very first bit of marketing around the film,

Introducing Independence Day: Resurgence‘s 40 Ton Space Tug

20th Century Fox dropped an exclusive first look at the space tug used by Liam Hemsworth’s character ESD Pilot Jake Morrison in Independence Day: Resurgence over at ComingSoon.net. Think of a tug boat in space, only for Resurgence, the crew actually built this 40 ton monster so the actors could interact with and act in a real space. It's this kind of commitment to real sets and props that has set recent sci-fi films,

Professor X Welcomes Home Raven (But She’s Not Having It)

What we know about the relationship between Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) and Professor X (James McAvoy) is that he's always trying to get her to see humans in the same hopeful light he does, but she ends up sounding like a certain someone when she rejects humanity's potential for goodness; Magneto (Michael Fassbender). As you'll remember from Days of Future Past, one of Xavier's longstanding goals is recruiting Raven (when she's being bad, she goes by Mystique) to his side of the human-mutant divide.

Ben Affleck is Your Murderous Number Cruncher in The Accountant

Director Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) has a new film coming that, on paper, might sound absurd—Ben Affleck plays a brilliant accountant/assassin—but might just be a sneaky, super enjoyable thriller. The Accountant looks pretty awesome, folks. First, O'Connor's no slouch as a director (if you saw Warrior, you already know that), and he's surrounded Affleck with a fantastic cast; Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jean Smart, Jeffrey Tambor,

And now with the first trailer for Assassin's Creedwe're finally getting a peek at their take on the game series. To be technical, Assassin’s Creed isn’t actually a direct adaptation of any one of the games,
