First Game of Thrones Season 8 Images Tease an Epic Ending

Finally, we can feast our eyes on the first images from Game of Thrones final season! And what an arresting batch they are—basically every major surviving player is represented in these portraits, give or take a Hound. Yes, HBO has done a bang-up job of keeping the frame tight around our remaining characters, lest they reveal anything to do with the plot. Still, seeing the likes of Arya, Sansa, Jon, Dany, Tyrion and the rest in new photos is a thrill. A foreboding thrill, but a thrill nonetheless.

We’ve written quite a bit about how the final, shortened six-episode season will feature movie-length episodes. We’ve also discussed the massive battle that took an astonishing 55-days to film (longer than most feature film productions). HBO is already busy plotting the Naomi Watts-led prequel, with a pilot set to film this summer, but all eyes will be on the upcoming final season of the flagship series.

The battle between the living (led by Jon and Dany) and the dead (led by the Night King) is upon us. We were a bit more than two months away from the April 14 premiere. You can also expect a proper trailer to drop fairly soon. The teaser, while artistic and stuffed with callbacks to seasons past, left us wanting to see actual footage. Although the teaser pulled off a nifty trick; it begged us to ask whether the Night King could resurrect long-dead Starks.
