Okay, now that the unstylish and unsophisticated among us have left, let’s get to the REAL reason why this is big news. For anyone who is not a major Marvel fan, The Wrap had revealed last October that Langford would join the cast of Avengers: Endgame in a top-secret role. We didn’t see the Australian actress in the first trailer, but most folks know her as Hannah Baker in Netflix’s 13 Reasons WhyThe young star has already earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She left the show following Season 2.

Langford’s fiery Instagram post has set the Internet ablaze with speculation as to who she might be playing in the direct sequel to 2018’s Marvel Cinematic Universe-shaking Avengers: Infinity War. Set your calendars: the final showdown between the remaining Avengers and Thanos drops this April 26.

So, you ask: “Who will Katherine Langford be playing?” The most prominent theory across the web is that she could be the child of Iron Man superhero Tony Stark and Pepper Potts; it was instigated in Infinity War that Pepper might be pregnant, and Endgame directing duo Anthony and Joe Russo discussed this in a Q&A about Tony’s baby dream:

Other theories floating around are that Langford’s character could be the Black Widow’s long-lost sister. Or maybe, hear me out: she could be an entirely new character unrelated to the traditional Avengers!

In case you’re in need of a touch-up, Langford’s blazing new look was completed by Circles Hair Studio, an Aussie-based salon specializing in color treatments. The salon also shared Langford’s transformation on Instagram, with video footage showing the entire process from start to finish:

It’s lit! Whatever happens, you can bet we’ll be red-y when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26, 2019.
