The Russo Brothers Hilariously Acknowledge Hawkeye’s Avengers: Infinity War Absence

Hey, remember last Monday when we shared this awesome Hawkeye-centric Avengers: Infinity War poster created by artist Boss Logic? Well, the Russo Brothers, the gentlemen directing the film, have heard all about the concerns from Team Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner, obviously) about his absence from promotional materials, have seen Boss Logic’s epic poster, and have responded. That’s right, the dynamic duo who filmed Infinity War and Avengers 4 back-to-back changed their Facebook cover image to include Boss Logic’s ode to Clint Barton, the man who can’t miss.

This is a timely bit of acknowledgement on their part, considering we just published this piece on the five new Infinity War posters that—wait for it—don’t include Hawkeye. To be fair, the posters also don’t include Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, but he’s got his own film franchise, with Ant-Man and the Wasp dropping on July 6, so there’s no fear he’s being marginalized. The same can’t be said for Hawker, even despite the Russo Brothers promising us that the family man and sharpshooter is, indeed in the film.

“Hawkeye coming out of Civil War is in the same position that the Cap and Falcon are in at the end of that movie,” Joe Russo told Cinemablend. “And Ant-Man. And coming into this movie, the characters who are on Cap’s side are coming out of Civil War, some made certain decisions and others made other decisions that led to different paths and them dealing with oversight in this movie in a different way. So, Hawkeye’s on his own journey in this movie.”

We know that Infinity War takes place around two years after Civil War, and we know that in the meantime Cap, Black Widow and Falcon have been doing some secret avenging, while Thor and Hulk were doing some cosmic road tripping during the intra-squad battle. Hawkeye, meanwhile, the Avenger with kids in the group, the only Avenger whose mind was taken control of by Loki in the first film, the only one who had the ability to talk a much more powerful Scarlett Witch into fighting alongside the team in Age of Ultron, the only one who routinely gets beat up by his best friend Black Widow, is certainly deserving of whatever kind of journey he’s been on.

So long as he ends up lending his impeccable aim and timely pep talks in Infinity War, which opens on April 27, in case you  haven’t heard.
