“The End of Oak Street”: Anne Hathaway & Ewan McGregor Face Dinosaurs in Wild Thriller For David Robert Mitchell’s New Film

Imagine you wake up to another day in your suburban paradise. All seems well. You’re a happy family of four, living what was once reasonably called the American Dream. Everything is going to be all right. That is, until you take a drive down Oak Street (the street you live on) and find that, instead of ending in a cul-de-sac or a wooded lane that leads to another leafy hamlet, it simply ends at a heretofore unseen cliff. It seems as if your street has been transported to another place. Another time. There’s a roar behind you. You turn.

It’s a dinosaur.

Such is the premise of writer/director David Robert Mitchell’s The End of Oak Street, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as the parents of two kids (played by Maisy Stella and Christian Convery) who have to figure out a way to survive in what appears to be prehistory, in a neighborhood now lousy with multi-ton dinosaurs who have zero qualms about eating them. Mitchell, the director of the ridiculously unnerving It Follows, knows his way around tension-building, and he’s re-teamed with collaborators from It Follows once again, including cinematographer Michael Gioulakis. He’s also tapped ace production designer Maya Shimoguchi, editor John Axelrad, composer Michael Giacchino, and costume designer Erin Benach.

There have been rumors that The End of Oak Street exists in the Cloverfield universe, and the involvement of producer J.J. Abrams doesn’t do much to dispel those notions, though nothing has been confirmed yet. What we do know is that this talented cast and crew make The End of Oak Street a must-see late-summer treat.

Check out the trailer below. The End of Oak Street arrives in theaters on August 14.
