The Official Trailer for Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman Reveals Star-Studded Mob Epic

Martin Scorsese waited a long time to return to the world of crime he had all but made his own, but when he did, he did so with a meaty epic that’ll make its world premiere at the New York Film Festival this week. We’re talking about The Irishmanof course, Scorsese’s decades-spanning saga about World War II veteran Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro), better known as “The Irishman,” who (allegedly) is the man who took out the legendary leader of the Teamsters, Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino).

The film spans much of Sheeran’s life and utilizes cutting-edge technology to render the cast many years younger then they are now. A new trailer has dropped, giving us an even better look at Scorsese’s film. “It’s like the army,” Sheeran says at the top of the trailer, talking about his new work for Russell Bufalino (Joe Pesci), the head of the Bufalino crime family and a man who saw something useful in the World War II vet. “You did the right thing. You got rewarded.” The “right thing,” in this case, was being a hitman for the mob. Thanks to Bufalino, Sheeran eventually got connected to Hoffa. Thus Hoffa becomes one of the many notorious 20th-century figures that Sheeran will work alongside in his long criminal career.

Check out the trailer here:

Hoffa famously disappeared, never to be heard from again. It’s widely believed he was murdered, but no one has ever been convicted and his body has ever been found. The Irishman is based on Charles Brandt’s book “I Heard You Paint Houses,” in which Sheeran had claimed to have killed Hoffa in 1975.

Whether or not you believe that to be true, it’s fair to say The Irishman should be on everybody’s must-see list.

It’s also worth noting that this is the first time Scorsese and De Niro have worked together since Casino in 1995. This is also, believe it or not, the first time Scorsese and Pacino have worked together, period. The Irishman also sees Joe Pesci return from retirement to work in his longtime friend’s film.

The Irishman has plenty of incredible supporting players. Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, Stephen Graham, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Jack Huston, Kathrine Narducci, and Jesse Plemons.

The Irishman hits select theaters on November 1, 2019, and then will stream on Netflix on November 27, 2019.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.
