Netflix Reveals Creepy First Trailer for In The Tall Grass

Netflix has just given us our first peek at writer/director Vincenzo Natali’s In the Tall Grass, which is an adaptation of the novella from Stephen King and his son Joe Hill. In the Tall Grass, which may do for grass what Jaws did for the ocean, creating a vast, seemingly infinite space where it’s what you can’t see that will kill you. The trailer opens on the sight of, well, tall grass, swaying beautifully in the breeze. Then we hear a boy’s cry for help. A young couple in a nearby car get out to investigate, and once they enter the tall grass everything goes completely nuts.

Insanity is precisely what one would expect from the mind of King and Hill. Soon enough, Patrick Wilson’s Ross Humboldt comes stomping through the grass, too. How many people are wandering about in this field? It turns out it’s his son that’s lost. Then it turns out that a whole bunch of people end up getting lost in the tall grass, which seems sentient and very committed to keeping them inside its hyper-green precincts. “Some places have a mind of their own” the trailer promises us, and In the Tall Grass explores that concept with all of King and Hill’s requisite skills at world-building. Natali seems like he had quite a good time adapting the novella, and the setting promises a nightmarish twist on what Field of Dreams did for green expanses.

The film also stars Harrison Gilbertson, Laysla De Oliveria, Avery Whitted, Rachel Wison, and Will Buie Jr.

Here’s the official synopsis from Netflix:

When siblings Becky and Cal hear the cries of a young boy lost within a field of tall grass, they venture in to rescue him, only to become ensnared themselves by a sinister force that quickly disorients and separates them. Cut off from the world and unable to escape the field’s tightening grip, they soon discover that the only thing worse than getting lost is being found. Based on the novella by Stephen King and Joe Hill.
