New Suits & a Desperate Mission Fuel new Avengers: Endgame Trailer

“God it seems like a thousand years ago I fought my way out of that cave, became Iron Man and realized I loved you.” This is, of course, Tony Stark, talking to Pepper Pots. “I know we said no more surprises, but, I was really hoping to pull off one last one.” Only Tony’s talking to her via a message in a bottle, so to speak. That bottle is the spaceship he’s gotten himself on after nearly being killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. The message, Tony believes, will be his last ever.

Thus begins the brand new Avengers: Endgame trailer. The Russo Brothers‘ epic finale sees our Avengers at their most depleted and defeated. Tony Stark’s literally lost in space. We get a glimpse of Steve Rogers becoming Captain America because he wanted to help the country defeat the Nazis in World War II, but was, at the time, too scrawny to serve. Now he’s the leader of a team of broken superheroes, all of whom are dealing with the aftermath of having seen their friends die.

There’s Hawkeye training his daughter on the bow and arrow, followed by a rainy reunion with Black Widow. We can guess that Hawkeye has returned to action because Thanos’s snap may have taken his family. We see a brief shot of Asgard, and Thor before he lost both his long locks and his eye. We see both Falcon and Scarlett Witch turn to dust. We see Ant-Man, Okoye, and Nebula still alive and very, very angry. Mostly what we see is just how furious our survivors are.

There’s going to be a lot of chatter over Hawkeye’s new mohawk, as well as those new suits the Avengers are wearing by the trailer’s end. Then there’s a classic Thor moment. The big Asgardian summons his super-weapon Stormbreaker as he shows off for a new team member. Yup, that’s Captain Marvel, folks. She almost smiles. Thor decides he likes her. Perhaps he heard there was almost a Thor-related post-credits scene in Captain Marvel?

There’s a lot to parse here. For now, check out the new trailer while we digest its implications. Avengers: Endgame opens on April 26.
