James Wan Drops new Aquaman Image of Patrick Wilson’s Orm Riding a Dinosaur

The last look we’d gotten at James Wan Aquaman was a new TV spot that showed a very dumb person shoving Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) in a bar. We’ll have to wait until the movie premieres to find out what happens to said dumb person and his fellow goons, but Wan has dropped a new image from the film, successfully drawing our attention back into the sea. The image shows Willem Dafoe’s Nuidis Vulko and Patrick Wilson’s King Orm on their oceanic steeds. Dafoe’s Vulko has mounted a massive hammerhead shark, battle-ready no less. Wilson’s King Orm, on the other hand, is riding a Tylosaur, which is a massive predatory marine lizard that lived between 93.9 and 66 million years ago. How Orm got his hands on a dinosaur is a matter we’ll have to wait to uncover when the film opens. What’s clear is that Wan’s monstrously ambitious take on Aquaman‘s underwater metropolis Atlantis is one of the many reasons to be excited about this film.

In the comics, Vulko is a brilliant scientist and consultant to the Atlantean king (perhaps he’s the one who figured out how to clone a Tylosaur), and although he was supposed to be in Justice League (his scenes were cut), you can be certain he’s a crucial part of Aquaman. Wilson’s Orm is going to be a major thorn in Aquaman’s side, along with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta, and the fact he’s got a dinosaur on his side gives him at least a fighting chance. Everything we’ve seen thus far of Wan’s epic take on Aquaman has lead us to believe that Warner Bros. and DC gave him the freedom to follow his vision as deep and wide as it would take him. From that epic 5-minute trailer released at New York Comic Con to stories from the production of more water stunts and underwater practical effects than ever before, we’re very excited to see what the talented young filmmaker has done with one of DC’s most colorful and intriguing superheroes.

Aquaman hits theaters on December 21, 2018.
