The New Birds of Prey Trailer is a Total Scream

Now that’s a trailer, folks. Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is one of 2020’s most anticipated films, and this new trailer will only increase the excitement. Birds of Prey airlifts Suicide Squad‘s main attraction—Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn—and plops her down in Gotham with a bunch of new friends and a proper enemy to take on. Harley no longer has her sociopathic sidekick to steal screen time (Jared Leto’s Joker), and thus Birds of Prey will give us more Harley, along with a bunch of great female characters from DC’s canon to team up with. This new trailer gives us even more hope that this film will live up to its promise. Set to Bjork’s “Oh So Quiet,” this latest look is a total scream.

Director Cathy Yan is working off a script from Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) and a great supporting cast behind her mega-star Robbie. Harley Quinn will be cleaning up Gotham (while making a mess, no doubt, simultaneously) with Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco, making her big-screen debut), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez). They’ve come together to take out some very bad dudes; the supremely wicked Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor) and his sidekick Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina). It seems that each of the ladies has done something to get on Roman’s bad side, so they’ll need to team up to take him out.

This trailer really speaks to Cathy Yan’s vision, taking Robbie’s delightfully madcap Harley Quinn and building a film, and a look, around her. There’s color and energy to spare here, and if the film is as good as these two minutes and change, Warner Bros. will have yet another franchise on its hands, adding to their already winning stand-alone series around Wonder Woman and Aquaman. (To say nothing of Joker.)

Birds of Prey is due in theaters on February 7, 2020.

Here’s the official synopsis:

You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.
