Vin Diesel Shares Video From 1st Day of Filming on Fast & Furious 9

As savvy as Vin Diesel has been in his career, even he couldn’t have known that he’d still be filming Fast & Furious installments 19-years after the original film was released. Yet here we are, with Fast & Furious alum Justin Lin back directing Diesel and his co-stars in Fast & Furious 9. This franchise has been so successful that two of Diesel’s co-stars, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, have their Hobbs & Shaw spinoff coming out this August 2. That film focuses on the begrudging partnership between Luke Hobbs (Johnson), a member of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and former British military elite operative Deckard Shaw (Statham). As for Furious 9, Diesel has taken to his trusty Instagram page to revel in the fact that he’s back on set with longtime co-star Michelle Rodriguez to begin filming.

In Lin, Fast & Furious 9 has the most tenured director of the franchise back at the helm. Before he went on to direct Star Trek Beyond, Lin steered Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6. Along with the franchise’s stars and action appeal, Lin has been a major reason it has become a global phenomenon. The franchise has only gotten more popular as it has aged. The stunts have only gotten more insane.

We don’t know much about Fast & Furious 9 at the moment, save for a few of the familiar faces who return, as well as the fact that John Cena has joined the cast in a still-unknown role. Some of your returning champions are Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, and Nathalie Emmanuel. Your guess is as good as ours for what Furious 9 might focus on. This makes Diesel’s update via Instagram all we’ve got to work with at the moment, which is better than nothing.

Fast & Furious 9 is due to hit theaters on May 22, 2020.
