As If! Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz Returns in New “Clueless” Sequel Series for Paramount+

Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz has found a new home.

Silverstone’s Clueless sequel is headed to Paramount+. Originally set up for development at Peacock in early 2025, the series has now moved to Paramount+ with a six-episode order. Production is slated to start in Los Angeles in 2027.

The series will be set in the present day. Silverstone’s Cher is now “successful in business and has mastered motherhood,” according to the logline, but as fate is wont to do, Cher’s troubles begin again in high school, only this time, it’s not her primary experience that’s causing a stir but her teenager’s. Once again, Cher finds herself “clueless all over again.”

Clueless is coming home,” said Jane Wiseman, head of Originals for Paramount+. “Thirty-one years ago, Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit and relentless optimism, helping make ‘Clueless’ a box office hit and instant pop culture classic. We’re especially proud to be filming this much-anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city’s exceptional talent and crews.”

This marks a homecoming for the franchise, as writer/director Amy Heckerling’s 1995 original was released by Paramount Pictures and was loosely based on Jane Austen’s novel “Emma.” Alongside Silverstone, the cast included Paul Rudd, Donald Faison, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Breckin Meyer, Elisa Donovan, and Dan Hedaya. The film was recently added to the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

The series will be produced by the Paramount-owned CBS Studios and is written by Stephanie Savage, Jordan Weiss, and Josh Schwartz, who are also on board as executive producers. Silverstone is also executive producing, as well as Amy Heckerling and the film’s producer, Robert Lawrence.

This isn’t the first time Clueless has made the jump to the small screen. A television adaptation ran for three seasons on ABC and then UPN from 1996 to 1999, with Rachel Blanchard as Cher.

Clueless is one of many projects that Paramount has in the works that center big-name Hollywood actresses; Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning will lead the legal drama Discretion, while Anne Hathaway will star in the limited series Fear Not for the streamer.
