It’s Peter Parker vs. the Hulk in Final “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” Trailer

Tom Holland’s trading in battling the lecherous suitors vying for Penelope’s (Anne Hathaway) hand in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey for battling bad guys in Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In the final trailer for Holland’s fourth swing as Spider-Man, Holland is once again playing someone dealing with a loved one with a shoddy memory (Matt Damon’s Odysseus spends many years on Calypso’s island in a contented if smoldering fugue state), only for Peter Parker, everyone he loves has forgotten him. Oh, and that includes Bruce Banner/the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), who we see getting a little green in the face in the final trailer.

Although Spider-Man may be a household name, Spider-Man: Brand New Day asks us to imagine a world in which nobody knows who he is. His existence has been forgotten thanks to a major dose of self-sacrifice on his part, and crucially, a magical spell cast by Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In that film, Peter was making up for a major mistake he made—he unleashed the multiverse, including Spider-Men from other universes (played by Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire), all of whom banded together to take on iconic villains from previous Spider-Man eras/universes, including Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin. Now, Peter Parker must navigate his superhero responsibilities in New York City without the support of the people he needs the most, MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon), as well as Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), whom he lost during the battles in No Way Home.

Picking up four years after the previous film’s end, the final trailer features a new mysterious threat that only Spider-Man is equipped to take down, one that takes any form (including the Hulk’s). Joining Holland, Zendaya, Batalon, and Ruffalo are Jon Bernthal (returning as the Punisher), Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role, Tramell Tillman, and Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/the Scorpion.

Set to premiere on July 31, Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s second trailer broke the record for the most views in a 24-hour period, racking up 718 million views. Marvel writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna. The film is produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige.
