New “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” Trailer Finds Tom Holland’s Peter Parker Alone—and Losing Control

Although Spider-Man may be a household name, Spider-Man: Brand New Day asks us to imagine a world in which nobody knew who he was. This is the world that Peter Parker (Tom Holland, returning for his fourth Spidey saga) now lives in as the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins. His existence has been forgotten thanks to a magical spell cast by Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In that film, Peter unleashed the multiverse and ended up fighting web-by-web with Peter Parkers past (played by Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire), all of whom banded together to take on iconic villains from previous Spider-Man eras, including Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin. Now, Peter Parker must navigate crime-fighting in New York City without the support of his loved ones, MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon), who no longer remember him. However, being a hero full-time comes with side effects, not just on Peter’s mental state but on the evolution of his Spidey-powers.

Picking up four years after the previous film’s end, the trailer features a new mysterious threat that only Spider-Man is equipped to take down. Yet Peter’s got some problems, namely, he’s starting to lose control of his powers and feeling a little (or a lot) unlike himself. As his eyes become entirely black, this new, angrier Peter takes out his rage on criminals and bad guys with alacrity. Luckily, Peter has the perfect person he can turn to, a former Avenger who knows a thing or two about dealing with rage issues. Enter Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), now a professor, who Peter enlists to help him untangle the good from the bad parts of himself. Dr. Banner used to know Peter, but those days are over—yet his knowledge just might be enough to help Peter return to himself.

The cast is stacked. Joining Holland, Zendaya, Batalon, and Ruffalo are Jon Bernthal (returning as the Punisher), Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role, Tramell Tillman, and Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/the Scorpion.

Set to premiere on July 31, Spider-Man: Brand New Day unleashed its second trailer following our first peek this past March. That was the one that broke the record for the most views in a 24-hour period, racking up 718 million. This latest installment in the series is brought to life by director Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Marvel writers Erik Sommers, Chris McKenna, and newcomer Justin Kuritzkes. The film is produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige.

With the release date quickly approaching, Spidey’s legions of fans are eagerly awaiting the first new installment in four years. Check out the trailer below.
