Ryan Reynolds Teases Unfortunate Conclusion to his Marvel Meeting

There are few actors in the business who have more fun with their own persona than Ryan Reynolds. Whether he’s in a years-long feud with Hugh Jackman, mocks the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s supervillain Thanos, or brilliantly skewers himself in various Deadpool promos, Reynolds is a one-man joke machine, making the most of his good fortune—and great instincts—as his career continues to soar.

Now he’s teasing a meeting he had with Marvel, once again deploying his deadpan self-deprecation, but also (knowingly) making us all wonder what he was really doing over at Marvel HQ:

Once Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, it meant Marvel now owned the rights to the Deadpool franchise. Yet we still don’t know what, exactly, the future holds for the Merc with the Mouth. One has to imagine that Reynolds was at Marvel to discuss that very future. Disney has already promised that Deadpool is a big part of their future plans, whether that means a Deadpool 3 or the character appearing in other titles. Considering the first two films in the Deadpool franchise were massive hits, you’d have to imagine Disney has more in store for the motor-mouthed, fourth-wall-breaking lunatic than making him a sidekick.

Reynolds has not only starred in Deadpool and Deadpool 2, but he’s also been a producer, writer (he was given a script credit on the last film), and has been the franchise’s most potent selling point, often doing much of that selling himself. The irreverence Reynolds and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick brought to their little corner of the superhero world felt like a breath of fresh air when the first film debuted in 2016. While Deadpool‘s R-rated mayhem doesn’t exactly fit in with the rest of the MCU, that might be about to change with the upcoming reboot of Blade, starring Mahershala Ali. There’s more than enough room in the MCU for Reynolds’ Wade Wilson; that is if the Marvel security guards will stop tasering him.
