New Ralph Breaks the Internet Trailer Reveals Ralph and Vanellope’s Mission

I am almost to the point where I need to admit that Ralph Breaks the Internet may be too much for me. There have been two previous trailers released and I have fallen into uncontrollable laughter to the point that I am gasping for breath. In the teaser, there was that hilariously morbid game of overfeeding the cute animals who eventually pop. Then there was the perfect personification of the annoying search engine autofill. And now, I cannot get past the part in the latest trailer where Ralph and Vanellope encounter a much more hardcore and unpredictable game than their own.

The trailer reveals the reason that Ralph and Vanellope blast online. I had mistakenly thought that their game systems got upgraded with an internet connection. Luckily, the real motivation makes much more sense. Vanellope’s game controller breaks and Ralph knows just where to buy a replacement. The Internet, of course, but this is a movie so they obviously have to go in person.

There is a lot of racing and also some racy jokes. Good luck explaining the spam pop up scene to your kids. The fish out of water theme makes for some really humorous moments. Then there is my favorite part with an actual fish, or shark rather. I’m amazed how each trailer has so much new footage and it is just hit after hit.

I can’t help but be incredibly optimistic about this movie. Wreck-It Ralph well exceeded my expectations. The Internet humor is so wry and witty. It’s definitely in there for the parents as some of the audience may not even be old enough to be online. (Who am I kidding? Every toddler has an iPad.) Regardless, the movie might ultimately make some really insightful commentary into the World Wide Web at a time when online fatigue seems to be skyrocketing.

For being video game characters, Wreck-It Ralph had one of the most emotional story arcs in animation. A somber sequence towards the end of the trailer suggests the sequel may be another tear-jerker.
