Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth Takes the Wheel Official Trailer for “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth”
The official trailer for David Fincher’s upcoming film The Adventures of Cliff Booth is here.
Brad Pitt stars in this spinoff from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, centered on Pitt’s titular stuntman’s Hollywood adventures in 1977, some eight years after the events in Tarantino’s film, a very different time in Tinseltown.
The trailer opens by mentioning one of Cliff Booth’s claims to fame: his fight against Bruce Lee (as depicted in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). While Cliff was always comfortable playing the guy behind the guy, as he did for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton in the previous film, by 1977, he’s bartending at a place that features women mud wrestling,
The trailer includes familiar faces like Scott Caan, playing a TV actor curious about Cliff’s real-life experience with killing people, Elizabeth Debicki, who inquires why he no longer works as Dalton’s stuntman (“Rick got too fat for me to double him anymore”), and brief glimpses of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Carla Gugino.
It’s the first substantial look at Fincher’s film since the teaser released during the last Super Bowl. That look showed us Cliff chilling at a bar, on the set of a film, and, as in this latest look, driving a derby car on a race track. The teaser also featured a nice meta touch: Cliff placing an Oscar on his desk—Pitt won his first acting Oscar for his turn in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
It’s an interesting film in that a director of Fincher’s caliber is taking on a spinoff (of sorts) of another acclaimed director’s film. What ups the intrigue is that Tarantino wrote the script, then handed it off to Fincher as he continues his quest to find what he says will be his tenth and final film to direct.
Fincher’s relationship with Netflix is solid—he’s helmed and produced the excellent Mindhunter and two feature films, Mank and The Killer, for the streamer.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood had much fun rewriting one of the darkest moments in modern LA history by having Rick and Cliff stop the Manson Family murderers before they could happen, thus saving Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) and the others who died that night in 1969. The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will introduce us to a new set of characters and Cliff’s same irascible charm. The cast includes Timothy Olyphant, Holt McCallany, and JB Tadena.
