New Footage Highlights Dark Phoenix International Trailer

Last week’s Dark Phoenix trailer did something unexpected; it revealed the death of a major character. At least we were almost certain that the trailer showed Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique dying. Then co-writer/director Simon Kinberg confirmed it.

We get new footage in this international trailer without any major characters shockingly dying on us. This gives us a bit more of the story, including Jessica Chastain’s mysterious evil mentor character. We get more of the space ship scene that was revealed at last year’s Comic-Con, too.

Dark Phoenix adapts one of the most famous Marvel comic arcs. It centers on Jean Grey’s evolution into the titular death goddess from outer space, an entity more powerful than the rest of the X-Men combined.  Jessica Chastain’s death-whisperer character is all in for Jean Gray’s transformation. Professor X (James McAvoy) appears powerless to control her. Even Magneto (Michael Fassbender) doesn’t seem able to use her potent powers to his advantage, as he has done so many times in the past with troubled mutants.

Check out the new international Dark Phoenix trailer below. It hits theaters on June 7.

Here’s the official synopsis from Fox:

In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.
