Breathe Deep During this Vicious new The Predator Teaser

What we’ve now seen of Shane Black‘s The Predator has given us the strong impression this movie is going to be insane. We’ll know for sure in only a few days when we catch the midnight screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, but for those of you who will be waiting until the September 14 release date, a new teaser released by Fox gives you a few fresh glimpses at what our crew of ex-soldiers and an evolutionary biology professor (Olivia Munn) are up against in the Ultimate Predator.

These Ultimate Predators have been taking DNA from other species and using it to enhance themselves in grotesque, glorious ways. They’re bigger, faster, smarter, meaner, and more ruthless than any previous alien hunter we’ve witnessed in the franchise’s long history. The moment when a regular old predator (a creature that, we must remember, was bigger, stronger and meaner than a peak-era Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 original) beholds his DNA-enhanced cousin is arguably the best moment in the teaser. You can almost feel the poor, lesser alien’s alarm and shock—yet it doesn’t have to tremble long, as the Ultimate Predator dispatches it in one brutal body slam.

There’s also a brief look (we think) at the predator dogs (you read that right), which we think might be yet another enhancement the Ultimate Predator has created for itself; an alien’s best friend. This seems an unfair tactical advantage for an alien species that is already nearly unstoppable.

Have a look at the new teaser below, and check back with us for our spoiler-free review that’ll follow the TIFF screening.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Predator:

From the outer reaches of space to the backwoods of southern Georgia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before. And only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and an evolutionary biology professor can prevent the end of the human race.

The Predator was written by Black and Fred Dekker and stars Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, Yvonne Strahovski.
