Black Panther Actress Letitia Wright Confirms She’s Joining Avengers: Infinity War

The Avengers are going to need all the help they can get to defeat Thanos and his quest to unite the Inifnity Stones and become master of the universe. We already know that veteran Avengers like Black Widow, Iron Man, and the Hulk will be teaming up with Guardians of the Galaxy Star-Lord, Gamora and more. Newcomers like Spider-Man and Black Panther are also answering the call, and now we know who the latest superhero to join forces with the team will be.

Actress Letitia Wright confirmed on Twitter this week that she will appear in Avengers: Infinity War as Black Panther’s sister Shuri. “Blessings super excited to be a part of this,” Wright wrote. She joins fellow Black Panther costars Chadwick Boseman, Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Martin Freeman (Everett Ross) in the MCU conglomerate film.

We’ll get our first glimpse of Wright as Shuri in the standalone Black Panther movie in February. Shuri is T’Challa’s younger sister, making her Princess of Wakanda. She’s also a genius inventor who may be giving Tony Stark a run for his money. In the comics she eventually inherits the role of Black Panther, but for now T’Challa bears that responsibility.

The casting news comes late in the game as Avengers: Infinity War is reported to have wrapped filming over the summer. It’s unclear what role Shuri will play in the saga, but as a latecomer she may have a better chance of surviving into Avengers 4. It’s possible that not everyone will.

Black Panther hits theaters on February 16 while Avengers: Infinity War is set for a May 4 release.
