“Baywatch” Trailer Makes a Splash With High-Stakes Lifeguard Action & Iconic Theme Song

The Baywatch lifeguards are officially back on duty.

The first trailer for Fox’s reboot closely follows the 1989 series’ original formula: wildly attractive people patrol the beaches of Los Angeles, saving lives while navigating their own often dramatic personal lives. The rescues are often epic. These are lifeguards who deploy all the tools of their trade and then some, and the new trailer makes it clear that the new reboot understands what made the old Baywatch once the most popular show in the world.

And there’s a lot happening on the beaches of Los Angeles here. A wildfire, a plane that rips through a paragliding duo of young girls, a lifeguard tower that explodes, and the noble members of the Baywatch crew sprinting at full speed across the beach, their iconic orange rescue cans in hand, to go save the day. Happily, it is all set to the original theme song, too: “I’m Always Here,” by Survivor‘s former frontman Jimi Jamison. Are there slow-motion shots of very fit lifeguards leaping, running, and more? Yes, yes, there are.

There’s more than just high-stakes rescues. Stephen Amell’s Hobie Buchannon is first approached on the beach and later at his home by his estranged daughter, Charlie (Jessica Belkin). Charlie promises her “old man” (we should all be so lucky) that she’s not looking for money or a father, but for a job as a Baywatch lifeguard.

The cast also includes Shay Mitchell, Brooks Nader, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Noah Beck, David Chokachi, and Thaddeus LaGrone. Ashley Moore, Luke Eisner, Nadia Gray, Kylar Miranda, and Charlie McElveen appear in recurring cast roles. At the two-and-a-half-minute mark, hip-hop superstar Megan Thee Stallion shows up.
