Steven Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day” First Reactions: A Thrilling Sci-Fi Mind-Bender Supercharged by a Phenomenal Emily Blunt
We’ve made contact with the first reactions to Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day following the film’s unveiling to the press ahead of its June 12 premiere. Disclosure Day marks Spielberg’s long-awaited return to the sci-fi drama, his first since 2018’s Ready Player One, and what makes this outing extra special is that it comes from an idea of Spielberg’s own, scripted by his Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp.
Critics are praising Spielberg’s return to the genre he has defined and redefined several times in his career, from Close Encounters of the Third Kind to E.T. to the highly underrated (in our estimation) War of the Worlds. The film stars Josh O’Connor as Daniel Kellner, a man who claims he has proof that human beings are not alone in the universe, and his claims soon become terrifyingly real when people like Emily Blunt’s weatherwoman, Margaret Fairchild, start speaking (on camera, no less) in a language not their own. Blunt is coming in for some serious praise, with many critics calling this her best performance, which is, of course, saying a lot given her career.

The cast includes Colin Firth as an official who will do anything in his power to keep the truth from the public, and Colman Domingo as Hugh Wakefield, a fellow truth-seeker alongside O’Connor’s Daniel Kellner. They’re joined by Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell, Elizabeth Marvel, and Michael Gaston.

Let’s take a peek at what some of the critics are saying. Disclosure Day arrives on June 12.
Disclosure Day is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! Truly something special. I was hanging onto every word, captivated by the story as it all played out. The score perfectly elevates every single scene. Part mystery, part Twlight Zone, something new entirely. I shed a tear at the end. WOW. pic.twitter.com/w7UOEpOgmh

#DisclosureDay is profound and deeply human with a stellar Williams score. Emotional and intelligent, it’s the perfect companion piece to E.T. and Close Encounters. Superb performances across the board but Emily Blunt is wondrous. @disclosureday is truly soul enriching Spielberg. pic.twitter.com/pzonBlj1ov

In a shock to absolutely no one, Steven Spielberg has delivered another towering home run with #DisclosureDay.
I could go on and on about what I loved, but I was lucky enough to see the movie knowing almost nothing, and I strongly recommend you do the same. Stop watching the… pic.twitter.com/a0ZJU8miYw— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) May 27, 2026
#DisclosureDay is the weirdest movie Spielberg’s ever made (complimentary). Breathtaking compositions, David Koepp’s X-FILES-meets-The Bible script is one big high-wire act, Emily Blunt’s most accomplished performance, John Williams’ best score in years. Riveting, moving stuff. pic.twitter.com/HzncLRORLD

I loved #DisclosureDay.
A dense roller coaster ride blending chase film, love story, & mystery, all wrapped in sci-fi wonder.
It’s Spielberg’s best film in 20 years, filled w/ all the magic that makes his films so special, plus an all-time character/performance by Emily Blunt. pic.twitter.com/cidIVruAtr

I can’t remember the last time I loved a Spielberg movie as much as #DisclosureDay — thrilling, funny, deeply emotional and impeccably acted (Emily Blunt, in particular, is astounding). Full of mystery and wonder, it proves that nobody does it quite like Spielberg. Just great.👽 pic.twitter.com/COlDCJlILZ

There are at least six shots in DISCLOSURE DAY where I have no idea how Steven Spielberg actually did it.
It’s an X-Files mystery with winks at every film in Spielberg’s history and an earnestness that I hope people embrace.
Emily Blunt gives the best performance of her career. pic.twitter.com/x7SaUoI5OB

There’s a sequence in #DisclosureDay where Spielberg cooks a oner with multiple rooms and multiple different characters and Emily Blunt is wildly impressive at the center of it.
It’s an absurd pairing of talent at the top of their respective games. https://t.co/Tn9HK2Nygi

DISCLOSURE DAY is top tier Spielberg, as exhilarating as RAIDERS but with the emotional texture & increased ambition of his post-9/11 work. Right from the opening Spielberg lays down the gauntlet and reminds you that he does this stuff better than anybody in the history of film. https://t.co/Q8ZAWAZE0J

Spielberg’s DISCLOSURE DAY is a hypnotic, captivating UFO thriller that completely disarms your soul. A bold screenplay by Koepp. Blunt & O’Connor form a magnetic & beautifully human couple. The best performances of both their careers. An astonishing masterpiece. You won’t blink! pic.twitter.com/rIsXYFtZAv
