First Look at Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel Studios released this three and a half minute Avengers: Infinity War teaser on their Twitter page, giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the yearlong production process that began this January 23. Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of Marvel’s massive project, their vaunted MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) that began in May of 2008, when director Jon Favreau, star Robert Downey Jr., cast and crew got together to make Iron Man. The MCU is a massive series of inter-linked films that have all been moving to Infinity War, and the battle with Thanos (Josh Brolin), the prime mover and shady super villain who has been choreographing things since the very start. 

Marvel’s Kevin Feige, the constant between every once of these films, describes how this path to Thanos was crafted with great care from the very first Iron Man film. One of the main obstacles Tony Stark, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and the rest of the good guys face is the fact that they have become enemies themselves. This in-fighting was a major plot point in the very first Avengers, but was the plot of Captain America: Civil War, which destroyed the comity between the group completely. “As we were conceiving and executing Civil War, the end of that movie was very much a set-up for what these movies would be, we always had a sense of that,” says Civil War and Infinity War co-director Anthony Russo. “Tony senses this greater threat approaching, so he is doing everything in his power to keep the world safe,” co-director Joe Russo adds.

“Thanos shows us why he’s the biggest, the baddest villain we’ve ever had,” Feige says. Fighting him in Infinity War won’t be left to just the Avengers (provided they can get their acts together and stop fighting amongst each other)—the gang from Guardians of the Galaxy, among others, will be joining the fight.

Avengers: Infinity War comes out May 4, 2018. It will be the biggest, busiest, most star-packed Marvel film ever made.
