La La Land Continues Hot Streak With 2017 BAFTA Award Nominations

After winning a record breaking seven Golden Globes, award season darling La La Land is on track to continue its streak at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards. The movie musical drummed up eleven BAFTA nominations.

From there, the ballot starts to diverge from the Globes, allowing other productions to step into the spotlight as well.

I, Daniel Blake, Arrival, and Nocturnal Animals make a strong showing – the former two both up for the Best Film category. Neither film competed for the top spot at the Globes; the BAFTA awards will give them a chance to shine. The BAFTA awards have only one Best Film category with five films, whereas the Golden Globes breaks the category among drama and musical/comedy.

Other notable films to watch for during the BAFTA awards include Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, nominated in four categories and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, nominated in two.

Amy Adams, who appears in both Arrival and Nocturnal Animals, is a contender for Best Leading Actress for her performance in Arrival. Other stars, such as Emily Blunt (Girl on the Train), Hugh Grant (Florence Foster Jenkins), and Jake Gyllenhaal (Nocturnal Animals) will also have an opportunity to come home with an award.

Winners will be announced February 12. In the meantime, check out the full list of 2017 BAFTA nominations:
