Pokemon Will be a Movie—Legendary got the Rights

Have you heard about Pokemon Go? You probably have, as it's currently the major thing happening in video gaming. The mobile version of the Nintendo video game franchise has become an insane phenomenon so quickly that the Pokemon Go panel has been given the huge Hall H venue at Comic-Con—it was slated to appear in a much smaller setting. For the uninitiated, here's what Pokemon Go is, straight from the creators: With Pokémon GO, you’ll discover Pokémon in a whole new world—your own! Pokémon GO is built on Niantic’s Real World Gaming Platform and will use real locations to encourage players to search far and wide in the real world to discover Pokémon. Pokémon GO allows you to find and catch more than a hundred species of Pokémon as you explore your surroundings.

And now Legendary Pictures has snagged the movie rights to Pokemon. Deadline reports that Legendary has officially closed the deal, and now that Pokemon Go took off, it's no wonder studios were so interested.

Deadline has it that the Pokemon movie will use the Japanese videogame Great Detective Pikachu as the basis for the story.  We'll keep you posted when more information comes to light.
