Whales in Space? New Star Wars Rebels Clip Says YES

In this new clip from the Star Wars Rebels episode “The Call,” your beloved Ghost crew, led by Ezra and Kanan, are in a part of deep space that Captain Ahab and Ishmael may have felt at home in ("Moby-Dick" reference, y'all)—if those aren't space whales, then honestly what could a space whale possibly be?

For those of you not obsessed with "Moby-Dick," there's a reason Melville picked the sperm whale as his titular monster (aside from hearing the reports of the whaleship Essex, which was sunk by a particularly enraged specimen); the sperm whale is the largest toothed whale and largest predator on Earth. So perhaps these Star Wars Rebels versions are, like their terrestrial kin, very dangerous when provoked. Which is exactly what happens in this clip…

For your Rebels newbies, here's your synopsis: "Set between the events of Star Wars: Episodes III and IV, the story unfolds during a dark time when the evil Galactic Empire is tightening its grip of power on the galaxy. Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet and are ruining the lives of its people. The motley but clever crew of the starship Ghost — cowboy Jedi Kanan, ace pilot Hera, street-smart teenager Ezra, the “muscle” Zeb, warrior firebrand Sabine, and cantankerous old astromech droid Chopper — is among a select few who are brave enough to stand against the Empire."
