Spike Lee’s Michael Jackson Doc Coming to Showtime

Did you know that there are lyrics in Michael Jacskon's seminal "Don't Stop Until You Get Enough" that pertain to…Star Wars? Don't believe us? You can check out the lyrics here, you can hear them in the trailer below, and you can revel in the fact that the chorus for Jackson's first huge hit goes like this: Keep on with the force don't stop/Don't stop 'til you get enough. Jackson repeats this four times. These aren't the only references to the force in the song. This was news to Questlove, the drummer for The Roots and The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon's resident musical impresario. Despite loving the song, he was never really sure what Jackson was saying.  "It had these bizzare lyrics," says The Talking Heads' David Byrne, "these bizarre lyrics that were quoting Star Wars." These are two of the music world's colossal talents who populate Spike Lee's documentary Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall

Lee's doc will be bowing in one week at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, and then will be airing on Showtime on February 5. The film features archival footage from TV, concerts and more mixed, with musicians like the aforementioned Questlove, Bryne, along with John Legend, Mark Ronson, The Weekend, Pharrell Williams and more. Lee's doc focuses on Jackson's career from the Jackson Five and his Motown days to his first solo album "Off the Wall." Because of Lee's clout, he was able to wrangle Jackson's family to speak on record; his parents, Katherine and Joe Jackson, and his brothers Jackie and Marlon Jackson.

"I've always used Michael as, first and foremost, a vocal inspiration, and Off the Wall was definitely the one that made me feel like I could sing," The Weeknd says. Here's the trailer.
