Springfield of Dreams: The Legend of Homer Simpson Documentary Coming to Fox

What better way to celebrate the upcoming World Series than by watching a documentary about one of baseball’s greats—Homer Jay Simpson. Fox Sports is celebrating their 20th year broadcasting the World Series by airing Springfield of Dreams: The Legend of Homer Simpson, which commemorates the twenty-fifth anniversary of the classic Simpons episode “Homer at the Bat.” The documentary will air on Sunday, Oct. 22 on FOX. Finally, Homer is getting his due.

Not only does the one hour special honor the classic “Homer at the Bat” episode, it also includes Homer’s induction—so to speak— into The National Baseball Hall of Fame earlier this year. The doc is a send up of Ken Burns’ epic, 4,000 hour long documentary“Baseball,” and includes interveiws with eight Major League Baseball players, baseball historians, iconic sports announcers and commentators like Joe Buck and Bob Costas, author George Will, Dr. Oz (for some reason), fashion consultant and TV star Tim Gunn, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio, and current Yankee star Aaron Judge.

There’s also six minutes of never-before-seen original animation from The Simpsons, including interviews with Homer, Moe, Chief Wiggum and Apu.

This is an epic night for The Simpsons—it’s also when they’re airing their annual Halloween-themed “Treehouse of Horror XXVIII” episode, in which Maggie becomes possessed by a demon, Lisa discovers an uncanny version of her family in an alternate universe, and Homer…cannibalizes himself. The episode airs Sunday, Oct. 22 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT). Ben Daniels (The Exorcist), director William Friedkin (“The Exorcist”) and chef Mario Batali make guest-voice appearances.
