Maximum Effort: Ryan Reynolds Says Another “Deadpool” Film Is Eventually Coming
It wasn’t so long ago (2024, to be exact) that Ryan Reynolds suggested he didn’t see another solo Deadpool movie in the works. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter back in 2024 after the smashing success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
“Centering Deadpool works best if you take everything away from him and put his back against the wall. I can’t really do that again,” Reynolds told THR in 2024. “A fourth time feels a little iterative and redundant. That doesn’t mean sacrificing fun. There is still an arc for Deadpool which is fulfilling and powerful.”
It sounds as if Reynolds might have found that arc.
At a recent appearance at Fantastics Fest 2026 during the July 16 weekend in New York City, coinciding with the final weekend of the FIFA World Cup, Reynolds was on hand to reveal a little follow-up to the potential for another Deadpool movie.
“There’s a few really deep cuts that I think are missing behind the movies. I think there’s a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics. There’s certainly some stuff that, you know, I love that Fabian Nicieza [co-creator of Deadpool] wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan, who was a friend, was an incredible comic writer,” Reynolds said onstage, via a video shared on X. “There’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. It’s going to be great.”
Reynolds neither confirmed nor denied whether this would be a stand-alone Deadpool film or another team-up, like the two-hander between Deadpool and Wolverine that fueled the 2024 hit movie. Deadpool & Wolverine became the top-grossing R-rated movie of all time, pulling in $1.3 billion globally.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to kick into high gear again with the upcoming December 18 release of the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Endgame, which features a slew of the X-Men from generations past, including Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Kelsey Grammer as Beast. Notably absent from any marketing material thus far from Doomsday are Reynolds’ Deadpool or Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, continuing the longstanding, comically rich bit of Deadpool never making the Avengers cut. One character from Deadpool & Wolverine who did make the cut, however, was Channing Tatum’s Gambit.
