Here’s Your First Glimpse at A Quite Place: Part II

We’ve been waiting a long time to get our first look at A Quiet Place: Part II. Finally, Paramount has released a teaser revealing our first glimpse at John Krasinski’s followup to his surprising 2018 smash hit. Krasinki directs from a script he wrote and from the teaser it looks like the new film picks up more or less right where he left off in the first film. Part II will center on the surviving members of the Abbott family as they find themselves moving out past the boundaries of their house and into the larger world, where the sightless, sound-hunting alien monsters are only one problem among many.

It’s never easy following up a surprising, immensely satisfying original film with a sequel that matches it. First, you’ve lost the element of surprise, and second, you’re often tempted to make everything bigger, scarier, louder, more intense. Krasinski has proven himself a nimble writer/director, however, and one feels confident he can pull this off. This teaser is brief but tense and intriguing, showing our courageous, resourceful Abbots literally stepping out into a dangerous new world.

We know that Djimon Hounsou and Cillian Murphy are in the film, which is exciting. We also know that Krasinski took his time crafting the story. The original film left the remaining Abbott family—Blunt’s Evelyn, Noah Jupe’s Marcus, and Millicent Simmonds’ Regan finally taking the fight to the aliens, thanks to the ingenious use of Regan’s hearing aids. We’ll have a better sense of what kind of sequel this will be when the full trailer debuts on New Year’s Day.

A Quiet Place: Part II opens in theaters on March 20, 2020.

Here’s the official synopsis for A Quiet Place Part II:

Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.
