Hiccup Unites the Town to Save the Dragons in a New Hidden World Trailer

If you truly love something, let it go. That’s the lesson Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) seems destined to learn in the final chapter of How to Train Your Dragon. The third movie of the trilogy will reveal The Hidden World, or a dragon oasis and the safe haven may be needed now more than ever. There’s a ruthless hunter who is determined to kill out dragon kind including Toothless. A new trailer for the animated epic illustrates the stakes we are dealing with here.

We as fans may be just learning about the ‘hidden world’ of dragons, but it turns out that the late Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler) actually was aware of its existence. Or at least folklore about the magical realm. Hiccup’s father shared the information with his son when he was still alive, and now it is coming to fruition.

As it turns out, the discovery will be none too soon. Evil is lurking in the form of Grimmel the dragon hunter. He’s a real jerk with a crossbow and literally threatens Hiccup promising, “I will destroy everything you love.” Rather than just being an avid sportsman, it seems like he has a personal Viking axe to grind with Hiccup.

Grimmel will not capture the dragons without a fight, however. The entire city seems to come to Hiccup’s aid. His mother Valka (Cate Blanchett) and friends Astrid (America Ferrera), Snoutlout (Jonah Hill), Fishleg (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), Tuffnut (T.J. Miller) and Ruffnut (Kristen Wiig) all have his back. Plus their dragons, even the baby ones. The goal seems to be to get the dragons to safety, but the ‘hidden world’ is beautiful and abundant. Maybe it can be a fresh start for everyone.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Now chief and ruler of Berk alongside Astrid, Hiccup has created a gloriously chaotic dragon utopia.  When the sudden appearance of a female Light Fury coincides with the darkest threat their village has ever faced, Hiccup and Toothless must leave the only home they’ve known and journey to a hidden world thought only to exist in myth.  As their true destines are revealed, dragon and rider will fight together—to the very ends of the Earth—to protect everything they’ve grown to treasure.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World flies into theaters February 22.
