Review Roundup: Ocean’s 8 Pulls Off the Daring Heist

The early feedback for Gary Ross’s Ocean’s 8 has been released, and it is easy to say that the critics are thrilled with the audacious and comical all-female cast. The replacement of the all-male crew was a bold way to spin-off the infamous Ocean’s 11 trilogy, starring George Clooney as Danny Ocean. The trilogy enthralls its audiences as Danny Ocean and his crew embark on several journeys around the world stealing from casinos and wealthy companies. This spin-off has its critics raving about how this fun and exhilarating mission impossible was a successful continuation of the Ocean’s series.

One of the most exciting aspects of the thrilling heist is the stellar cast. Peter Travers of the Rolling Stone concludes: “Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and A-list cast bring the glamour and the fun in frothy summer caper movie”.

These powerful and charming actresses help this film distinguish itself from other more contrived spin-offs of many movies. Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock), spends years in the slammer formulating her grand heist, one bigger than she could have ever imagined. However, this devious crime cannot be executed alone, so she recruits some talent to help her execute her sly heist to gain possession of movie star Daphne Kluger’s (Anne Hathaway) $150 million Cartier diamond necklace. In making her team she recruits her best friend and partner in crime, Lou (Cate Blanchett), who awes the audience with her beauty and glamor. Together these two assemble a team of talented criminals: Nine Ball (Rihanna), Rose (Helena Bonham Carter), Amita (Mindy Kaling), and Constance (Awkwafina). These savvy, yet sneaky and conniving women team up and take us on a wild ride as they execute this grand heist.

Here’s what the critics have to say about this thrilling heist. Ocean’s 8 hits the theaters on June 8.

Christy Lemire, Roger Ebert: ““Ocean’s 8,” taking us on a giddy, fizzy escape while also making a pointed statement about the realities of the world in which we live.”

Leah Greenblatt, Entertainment Weekly: “Ocean’s 8’s girls-just-wanna-have-grand-larceny conceit is the kind of starry, high-gloss goof the summer movie season was made for.”

Randy Myers, San Jose Mercury News: “Ocean’s 8 has a few coy tricks tucked up its sleeve, and each delivers an ace.”

Stephen Whitty, New York Daily News:“This caper’s a keeper.”

Brian Truitt, USA Today: “The thieving women of ‘Ocean’s 8’ pretty much steal the franchise.”

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone: “Ocean’s 8 is a heist caper that looks gorgeous, keeps the twists coming and bounces along on a comic rhythm that’s impossible to resist.”

Ocean’s 8 hits theaters Friday.
