Your First Look at Zachary Levi in his Shazam! Costume

Here’s your first look at Zachary Levi (Chuck) in his Shazamcostume, the first time we’ve seen the star of the upcoming Warner Bros./DC release in his superhero duds. Granted, it’s an image of Levi smiling in front of an ad with him in the suit, but it still gives us a glimpse of what director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation) is doing with the film. It looks as bright and fun as we’d expect the most family friendly film in the DC universe to be.

You’ve got the bright, glowing light of Shazam’s signature lightning bolt, you’ve got Shazam himself drinking something from a large plastic cup (throw a straw no less), and you’ve got the sense that the man you’re looking at is actually a young boy named Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who becomes the adult superhero in the picture via the help of some magic.

Here’s the official synopsis for Shazam!

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Joining Levi and Batson in Shazam! is Mark Strong (the Kingsman movies) as the super villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Jack Dylan Grazer (IT) as Billy’s best friend and ultimate superhero eexpert, Freddy, Grace Fulton as Mary (Annabelle: Creation); Faithe Herman as Darla (This is Us); Ian Chen as Eugene (Fresh Off the Boat); and Jovan Armand as Pedro (Hawaii Five-O).

Shazam! is due in theaters on April 5, 2019.
