These Fantastic Oscar Videos Visualize Each Craft Category

We love this. This morning’s Oscar nominations proved to be a jubilant affair (Greta Gerwig and Jordan Peele getting Best Director noms!), and what made today even sweeter is this fantastic series of short videos that visualize the job of what these brilliant, freshly nominated filmmakers do. It was a lovely tribute to the talented individuals whose work is so crucial, but whose names, save for one night a year, are largely unknown. The Academy shared these short videos between each category, and now they’re available for your viewing pleasure.

You’d be hard pressed to find a more succinct, fun way of describing the art of production design, sound, film editing, costume design, cinematography, animation, visual effects, makeup and hairstyling and original score. It makes it that much more appealing that each video boasts a brilliant female performer. Gal Gadot, Rebel Wilson Michelle Rodriguez, Thandie Newton, Priyanka Chopra, Molly Shannon, Michelle Yeoh, Rosario Dawson, and Salma Hayek all lend their talent to these mini (but not minor) celebrations of craft.

If the ceremony on March 4th is as inventive and artfully done as these videos, we may be in store for a truly special Oscars.
