How Guardians of the Galaxy Became a Marvel Blockbuster

Before it was a multimillion dollar franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy was an underdog in the Marvel comic world. Now, a new book from Marvel helps us remember the blockbuster’s humble beginnings.

Ahead of the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 later this spring, Marvel released Guardians of the Galaxy: Creating Marvel's Spacefaring Super Heroes: The Complete Comics History Tuesday, which explores the “creation and evolution of the Guardians through exclusive interviews with the people who brought them to life,” according to the book’s description. That means fans will hear directly from writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, artists Al Milgrom, Valerio Schiti, Skottie Young and more.

The book also includes art, spanning from original comic drawings to much more recent cartoons reflecting the film.

You can check out Gizmodo’s exclusive excerpt from the book here, and order the book for yourself here. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5.
