Felicity Jones Goes Rogue in First SNL of 2017
Felicity Jones was sensational in the role of Jyn Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, giving the Star Wars universe a plucky new heroine, along with Daisy Ridley's Rey and the late, great Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia (who became General Organa in The Force Awakens and Episode VIII). Joining the Star Wars universe meant that Jones, a rising star already, had officially arrived on the global stage, which often means arriving on SNL's stage shortly there after.
Jones will be SNL's first host in 2017, taking the stage this Saturday night with musical guest Sturgill Simpson. In SNL's first promo for the show, they cleverly show Jones' attempting to nail her monologue down while the assembled audience groans at her lame jokes.
As is the case every four years, SNL took the presidential election head-on in 2016. Now that the election is over and Trump is our president-elect, we'll be watching to see how the iconic sketch handles our new reality.
Yesterday also brought big news from SNL— Master of None star Aziz Ansari will be making his SNL debut on January 21, joined by musical guest Big Sean. Ansari will be the first host of South Asian descent in the show's history.
