New Independence Day: Resurgence Clip Features Fan Fave Dr. Okun

Another day, another Independence Day: Resurgence clip. This time, Independence Day fan favorite Brent Spiner is the featured player, showing off his powerful (we think) laser. Spiner fans love him for playing Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Dr. Brackish Okun in Independence Day. The only thing is, fans were certain that Dr. Okun bit the dust in the original film.

For the uninitiated, Dr. Okun was the oddball scientist from Area 51 whose major part in the original film involved him performing an autopsy on an alien. As we learned in the original Alien, it's almost never a good idea to put the scalpel to seemingly dead aliens. So naturally, Dr. Okun soon finds out that his alien subject isn’t dead, and the thing takes over Okun’s mind so it can try and spook Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore. The alien is shot and killed, but it's death seems to include Okun's death, too. We leave the good doctor motionless on the floor while a soldier checks his pulse.

But now we know that unlike Will Smith, Okun's back. In this clip, we see he's as wacky, and careless, as ever. Will he survive Resurgence? Or perhaps the better question is; can anything kill Dr. Brackish Okun?

Let's hope not.

Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters on June 24.
