The Moment of the Attack in The Shallows‘ New Clip

We've been loving the woman vs. great white angle in Jaume Collet-Serra's minimalist thriller The Shallows ever since we saw the first trailer. Like Open Water before it, The Shallows promises thrills within (and because of) it's simple premise; Blake Lively's character Nancy isn't marooned out to sea, she's just 200 yards from the beach when she's attacked by a great white. Yet that 200 yards might as well be 200 miles, as a great white can swim 100 yards in 8 seconds.

In this clip, we see the moment Nancy's idyllic day of surfing is turned into a life and death struggle between her and nature's perfect super predator. Collet-Serra knows how to extract maximum tension from seemingly simple plots—he's the man behind three Liam Neeson-led thrillers; Run All Night, Non-Stop and Unknown.

The Shallows comes out this Friday, June 24.
