As NPR reported, Sam Smith's journey to writing the Bond theme song began two years ago. That's when Smith sent an email to his agent with a very succinct, bold subject line that read "007." Today, the British singer's lifelong dream comes true with the release of "Writing's on the Wall."

"I hope the people aren't expecting for me to be bringing out a big pop song," Smith said to ScreenSlam. "Because that's not what I wanted to do here. I wanted to bring out something timelessly classic that works with the project and the film. I'm not writing this for me. It's not about me, my life…it's the James Bond song."

Now you can judge for yourself by listening below. We'll go out on a limb and say you're gonna love it. This is certainly a Bond song, and it's a great one. This was no small order considering Adele absolutely crushed her theme song for Skyfall.
