October 25, 2022

LOS ANGELES – The Trusted Partner Network, the content security initiative operated by the Motion Picture Association (MPA), has published Content Security Best Practices Version 5.0 to include application and cloud security.

For more than three decades, the MPA has managed security assessments at Media and Entertainment vendor facilities and is committed to ensuring the most effective security processes across the media supply chain.

Managed by TPN, Version 5.0 is comprised of 64 Best Practices and Implementation Guidance. The new version includes the following updates and additions:

  • Best Practices, including Application and Cloud
  • Implementation Guidance, including Application and Cloud
  • Definitions for Best Practices and Implementation Guidance
  • Security Domains
  • Security Topics
  • Site vs Cloud Identifier
  • Control Framework Mapping
  • Glossary

“The updated MPA Content Security Best Practices Version 5.0 provides a well-organized, concise, and comprehensive baseline for Content Security in the industry. The new format includes mapping to other control frameworks and is designed to give clarity and ease of use for all stakeholders involved in keeping content secure,” said Terri Davies, president of TPN. “We are grateful to all members of our stakeholder community who worked with us to develop Version 5.0.”

The Version 5.0 updates are also foundational to TPN’s launch of application and cloud security assessments in February 2023. Crystal Pham, Vice President of Operations and Product Management for TPN, added, “By simplifying the Version 5.0 framework, we are also able to update and streamline the TPN assessment questionnaire and improve the user experience for all stakeholders.”

The MPA co-founded TPN in 2018 as an industry-wide film and television content security initiative designed to help avoid leaks, breaches, and hacks in the production pipeline prior to a film or TV show’s intended release. This program, now wholly owned and operated by the MPA, provides industry vendors with a voluntary, cost-effective way to ensure that the security of their facilities, staffs, and workflows meet the MPA’s best practices and it accredits experienced assessors to conduct assessments globally.
