Statement from MPAA Chairman and CEO Senator Chris Dodd on the swearing in of Robert Lighthizer for USTR

WASHINGTON – The following is a statement from Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, on Robert E. Lighthizer being sworn in as the next United States Trade Representative (USTR).

“The MPAA congratulates Robert Lighthizer on being sworn in as USTR. The film and television industry is a key driver of the U.S. economy, generating $17.8 billion in exports and registering a positive trade balance with nearly every country around the world.

“The USTR plays a critical role in the continued success of America’s creative industries by negotiating and enforcing trade agreements that protect U.S. intellectual property rights and expand access to foreign markets. The MPAA looks forward to working with Mr. Lighthizer and his USTR team.”
