Motion Picture Association Statement on Fran Drescher’s Retirement as SAG-AFTRA President

August 8, 2025

WASHINGTON – Fran Drescher today announced she will not seek another term as president of SAG-AFTRA. The following is a statement from Charles Rivkin, Chairman and CEO, Motion Picture Association:

“Fran Drescher is a great friend and a powerful partner in fighting for a strong, dynamic film and television industry. She’s represented the 160,000-plus members of SAG-AFTRA with distinction, honor, effectiveness, and poise. She’s been a stellar voice for the creative workforce that strengthens America’s economy, invests in local communities, and helps bring incredible stories to life on screens large and small.

“I’ve always loved getting the chance to meet with Fran and collaborate with her on policy issues that impact the creative community. I will miss working with her, but I know that she will continue to be a forceful advocate for the causes she believes in. That’s who Fran Drescher is – and that’s what has made her such a powerful leader for our industry, on and off screen. I look forward to working with the incoming SAG-AFTRA team to build on Fran’s outstanding legacy.”
